Dear Cook Cousins: I sent you a letter that I received from Dr. Jeremy Bangs in Leiden, Holland. The letter explains the dilemma--not renewing his work permit. I would appreciate if you could write a letter supporting his work to one or all the suggested contacts. My interest in the American Pilgrim Museum began when I found a COOK family outline noting our relatives included Francis COOK of the Mayflower group. So I began reading to refresh my memory of the 1600 events. Of course, this increased my search but not in finding a personal link. My initial source was through the "Mayflower" website. In September, my wife and I visited several countries including Holland. I made a special trip to Leiden to visit this museum. I was in search of the Pilgrims plight more so than my family line. To my surprise, the museum was a typical Pilgrim-style 16th century one-room house as explained by Dr. Bangs. The museum is housed in a building built in the 1600s. The eerie part of this visit was entering the museum. The day of our visit, there was a heavy overcast. Upon entering the museum (room), it appeared as if there no lights. When my eyes adjusted to the darkest, I saw a dozen or so huddled around Dr. Bangs. Immediately, I thought of similar events occurring in the 1600s, where the Pilgrims had their meetings. The room was lighted my several candles. The visit was memorable. In your today's newspaper, you will see a story from The Associated Press (12/29/98). I was in total shock upon reading it since I received his e-mail eight hours earlier. I strongly support his efforts to keep our heritage alive and I appreciate your support. Cousin Edward A. Cook (AUGCOOK)
