    3. From: JerrSingle@aol.com >This sounds like another Hoax that people >like to pass around. Jerry & the list, I agree that it SOUNDS like a hoax. The good Lord knows how many we have suffered thru. BUT - AND THIS IS A BIIIIIIG BUT - I have to reiterate the warning that I've given before. I won't go into a huge amount of detail unless someone asks me to. HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KEEP IN MIND ABOUT VIRUSES. 1. In general, you cannot activate a virus by opening and reading an E-Mail message, unless it is a MS WORD Document that is attached, has microcode, and you launch it. This type of document poses a potential threat, but there is a way around that threat (I've been thru this before at work). Other than the glitch in MS Word, if it were possible to pass a virus by email, the internet would have been destroyed ages ago. 2. You CAN activate a virus by opening an e-mail that has an attachment which is an EXECUTABLE PROGRAM, and launching that program, or detaching it and executing it later. These would have extensions of .BIN, .EXE, .BAT, etc. In other words, executable program extensions. 3. Enjoy your email, don't fear it, but be very, very careful about any executable program which is attached to email or which you download - especially if it is attached to an email and is unsolicited. These should be virus checked very carefully. 4. As Jerry suggested, keep up with the sites that track hoaxes and real viruses. Forewarned is forearmed. RGDS:EARL
