    1. [COOK-L] COOK, PENGREE, KEAN, LESLIE of E. FL
    2. Addice D. Thomas
    3. Can anyone help with George Cook and his mother Rebecca. Who was his father? George was in Georgia prior to the Revolution. He owned property in Screven Co. which he may have inherited on the death of his father, and which was in George's estate when he died in 1815 in an Indian uprising in Florida. His family probably were Loyalists who fled to Florida (St. Augustine area). I do not know when he was born so do not know what age he was during the Revolution. By 1783 George's mother, Rebecca, was married to William PENGREE and living on the St. Johns River, FL. Rebecca had one other child, Eliza (Isabel in the Spanish records of East Florida). Eliza (b. c. 1772) was also not the child of William Pengree. She may have been the child of an unknown 2nd husband of Rebecca. Eliza's surname is found in Spanish records as KEAN. She married John LESLIE of the house of Panton and Leslie (a brokerage???) in E. FL. Does anyone have any info on any of these families?
