Hi Family, I'm posting this again to help us learn to fill out the subject line on our posts. We are really getting good!! :) Ellie This is our simple and easy rules or styles of posts that will assist us all in getting what we want out of the COOK list: I can't stress enough the importance of the team work it's going to take to make this system work. Rule or Post #1: COOK: Give Short Description.....Definition: COOK genealogy ONLY. Queries and Charts. For the source documentation, post it if you have it, or you may say that they can contact you. Rule or Post #2: HISTORY: Give Short Description.....Definition: Background history of the COOK surname or COOK general history. For the source documentation, post it if you have it, or you may say that they can contact you. Rule or Post #3:CHAT: Give Short Description.....Acknowledgments, greetings, well-wishes, holiday greetings, chit chat for members of the list. This includes responding to a post for example like the happy99 virus. Rule or Post #4: ANNOUNCEMENTS: Give Short Description.... Home Pages, Web Sites, and any records you want to post. A typical Subject Line might look like: [COOK-L] :COOK: My William COOK bo.1812 Oh [COOK-L] HISTORY: Francis COOK crossing on the Mayflower [COOK-L] CHAT: Merry Christmas [COOK-L] ANNOUNCEMENTS: Cyndi Howell site. With these four simple rules or posts each of you can now select which ones that you wish to read and which ones you wish to delete. Our subject lines are looking much better! It's really for our benefit that we learn to fill them out so members can tell exactly what's inside. We have members who will not read a query if it doesn't give information. So I wonder how many of you aren't getting your query read? Maybe you haven't sent one in a long time because you didn't get any replies. I hope you can think up a good subject line and resend it. The main thing is that we want to catch someone's eye! With the bingo's we have had on this list, I know someone is doing something right. Let's practice :) I was so proud of the way we conducted ourselves last week! We did need to know about the happy99 e-mail. I hope next time we can get the subject line in it's right place. If we do this...no one can complain about the extra posts that are being sent in. Why? because no one HAS to read Chat. Read below the description of Chat and you will get a better idea of what I am trying to accomplish for our list. Chat is just what it is...chat nothing more. If we learn to stay within our guidelines, we are safe. No one has the right to say anything back to you because you filled the subject line out with CHAT first. Let's really start using the Courtesy Rules so we are always in the right.
