My brick wall is HORATIO ROSS COOK, born ca. 1818 in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. He stated New Jersey as state of birth on all census documents. I believe, he was born close to both states. Names of parents not known. On the 1880 Census, he stated that his father was born in New Jersey and his mother was born in Maryland. He came to live in Augusta, GA in ca. 1826 to live with an aunt, according to his obituary in February 1886. He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1841 and established his practice in Beech Island, SC, across the Savannah River from Augusta, GA. The aunt may have been Eliza Keating, not documented. I had a DNA test (37-marker) in June 06 without a hit in my COOK line. However, I did have a minor hit with the KYLE surname. My two contacts dismissed it as a fluke. I'm not so sure. My question---What birth records would be available around 1818 in New Jersey and Pennsylvania? I appreciate your assistance in this matter.
