-- I decided to post information again to see if anyone has found anything new relating to my walls. I am descended from John Cook and Thankful Tripp Cooke from Coventry,RI, whom, after the Revolutionary War, settled in Laurens, Otsego County, New York. I have concentrated on direct lineage, but I have found in my father's genealogy files several letters and documents of related lines that cover several who migrated west. Samuel Tripp Cook, my ggg grandfather was married (1) to Amanda Hunt of Cherry Valley and their children were Angeline Adelia m.Smith, Orson, Nathan, Rhoene M. m.Hume,Hazeline Azelia, Harvey (my gg grandfather),Thomas H. m.Olive Falston, Thankful M. m. Gadsby,Charlotte C, John Jay m. Josephine Rosanna Smith; married (2) to Susan Hicks and their children were Jennie m. Fowler, Lavancha m.Lyon, Charlotte C.(named after first Charlotte C., whom died a few days after this Charlotte's birth) m. Chase, Ella Elizabeth m. Beardsley, and Sarah Urilla m. Washbon. I have some information on the descendants of Harvey W.,Thomas H.(moved to Iowa and descendants to Vancouver, Washington area),Thankful M.,John Jay and Sarah Urilla (Cook) Washbon. I also found a paper on Ebenezer Cook, son of Capt. Ira Cook of New Hartford, Oneida Co. b. 2/14/1810,married Clarissa C. Bryant at Unadilla, NY in 1833, Moved to Iowa 1835. d. Davenport, Iowa October 8, 1871. I found also a letter from Walla Walla, Washington regarding the lineage of Elias Cooke b. 8/14/1769 d. 12/1/1849 m. Lucy Hawley. It lists 14 children and then indicates that daughter Harriet m. Hiram Slade 9/15/1824 by Rev.Garvin. It lists their 7 children and it also indicates that Elias Cooke operated an inn in Otsdawa in Otsego County, New York and that Hiram Slade lived nearby. It also mentions that Elias Cooke is listed in the 1840 census in Butternut Township, Otsego County, New York. My "brick walls" are Robert Cooke b. abt 1652 d. 13 July 1704 Hog Island, Portsmouth, RI M. Thamer Tyler b. abt 1659, Portsmouth, RI, d. after 1704 Portsmouth, RI. at Portsmouth 5 Dec. 1678. I have been unable to find any positive information to the parents or place of birth of Robert. Their son Samuel was born 19 Dec 1695 at Portsmouth and married (1) Enfield Greene at Warwick, RI 25 Mar 1719. Their son Samuel Jr. was born at Warwick 26 July 1720. I can find nothing more about him. Did he marry? When or where did he die? Samuel Sr. married (2) Mary King 11 Oct 1728 at Tiverton, RI. Their son Robert and their daughter Sarah's son John are my ancestor's who moved to Otsego County, New York. Sarah's son John married Thankful Tripp. The question about John Cook is whether he was the son of Samuel Sr's daughter Sarah,by his second wife Mary King or was he the son of Samuel Jr. and a wife named Sarah? John was born 16 Nov. 1755, which would have him the son of Samuel Jr. at age 35 or the son of "aunt" Sarah when she was 21 and unmarried. Samuel Sr's will acknowledges a daughter Sarah and grandson John but is not clear about who Sarah was.
