Two cues, NJ & Rockland Co NY caught my attention. Can you tell me please why you suggested your John may have been born Rockland Co before time up the Mowhawk Valley? (I don't think there was a Rockland prior about 1800 but it is on the Delaware River) I have a John Cook Jr b 1748, died 1810 Colchester, Delaware Co, NY. I know nothing about his first family by Abigail but because she has a DAR file I am certain there has to be at least one child & descendants. He remarried 1779 NJ with Dolly Cook after falling injured at the Battle of Monmouth. If you go to rootsweb.com or ancestry.com you can find this family tree as I've reconstructed it. By custom if 'my' John is a Jr I can expect he & Abigail may have a son John.
