Hello Listers! Its been years since I posted my queries (1997-2000) and I've found some new information which I hope can lead me to unlocking my Cook family mystery! I am searching for the ancestry of Adelia (Cook) Carpenter. She was born June 25, 1815 in Ashtabula, OH. have tracked her through a marriage record in Rochester, NY where the record states: "On the 6th inst. at St. Paul's Church by the Rev. O. Clarke, Mr. Ira Carpenter to Miss Deba Cook." (source: Rochester Gem and Ladies Amulet (RGLA) October 15, 1836 ) Note: Not sure if "Deba" is a nickname, mistype or what) She and Husband Ira were in Rochester at least through 1845. I've tracked her afterwards through census' where her parents birth place was said to be CT. In 1860 she is found with young son William (born 1847, NY) in Cleveland OH residing in the home of Selah Chamberlain, wealthy RR contractor and businessman. Also living in the house is OLIVIA COOK, widow. (I am not sure if they are related, but based on the surname, its quite possible!) From the 1850 census Olivia COOK was living in Cleveland with her husband Carlisle D. Cook (b. VT 1816 and young son Hubbard Cook (b VT 1841), there was also a Ruth Cook b. VT 1820). It is possible Carlise D. Cook was Adelia's brother. By 1870 Adelia (widow) was living in Brooklyn NY with her son William and his wife Adelaide. Adelia lived until 1918 (103 years old!) dying on Staten Island New York. Her death record said she was born Ashtabula, father's name was "possibly"James Cook. So, this Cook family: Father Cook born CT (probably ca 1790), they were in Ashtabula, OH by 1815 when Adelia was born, and in Rochester, NY 1836 when Adelia married Ira Carpenter. ANY information on 1. Rochester, NY Cooks of the time period 2. Ashtabula, OH Cooks 3. A Carlisle D. Cook b. VT ca 1816 (those this might be a red herring if no relationship) Anxious for ANY info on the above!
