    2. Marilyn, The cookfamilygenealogy.com is a privately operated link affiliated ( or was ) to FTDNA.com I am currently looking into this problem with the link via FTDNA. Now, "family tree dna" does the actual testing , they are the lab. They maintain a world wide data base for all tests, post all documents and verifications etc. They are the largest testing facility in the world for genealogical dna studies. If your cousin is in the direct male line of this John Cook born 1772 in Litchfield Ct and his name is Cook of course, I would be willing to pay for the 12 marker test just to see if there is a match, it costs 149 $ for the basic panel Y- Chromosome male surname marker test. If he wants more markers, which you can get up to 67 , he would be on his own. Or if he wanted his maternal line checked with the Mt DNA test or other tests etc. He gets the kit sent to his adress with instructions and return mail envelope to send in the samples, he gets the certificate of marker value confirmation, I get the results posted to my email and can forward them to you and or him etc and it goes into the surname data base maintained by FTDNA worldwide. The certificate that he gets also has the values on it. Go to : http://www.ftdna.com On the left side of the main page you will see some different tests offered , the one we would be doing is the Y chromosomal surname project, 12 marker. This would tell us if my Cook male ancestors are related to your Cook male ancestors. These could be cousins, Uncles, brothers, Father or Grandfather etc. It tells if there is a common male ancestor. There is more likely one here because as you know "back in the day" in the late 1700s people didnt get around all that much and tended to live in regions where there were other family members as thier support system. This is why I can try this at my expense at least once to see if there is a relationship. Knowing this can help both parties by comparing family trees and then maybe concentrating on future research by county and township etc. Or by linking with other family trees and contacting new possible descendants etc. Regards, Alan Cook....................................................................................... -----Original Message----- From: cookiebrown11@gmail.com To: cook@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 16 Mar 2007 8:36 AM Subject: Re: [COOK] Fwd: John b. 1772 CT d. aft 1860 NY or NJ?, son Jonas, gson Elbert G. Alan or anyone that knows the answer., I was reading your post about the DNA testing and tryed to access that link and it won't open. I have a male cousin that is willing to test but I don't know any of the info to send him. Could you send me an active link. I don't think we are connected to your line but maybe another one out of Ct. or Va. 3. Alan, How much does it cost to have the full panel.? Maybe he would be not connected to you and yours but us and ours.
