I am trying to trace the descendents of George COOK(E) and Susan Eliza MATTHEWS. George was born in Clapham, Surrey, England in 1834 to parents Elizabeth, nee APPLEFORD and William COOK(E). Elizabeth was born in Tilehurst, Berkshire, but nothing is known about William Cook(e)'s origins, except that he was not born in Surrey (courtesy of census information). Elizabeth and William's children, born between 1825 and 1842 were named Elizabeth, William, Charles, Edward, George, Richard, Henry Edward, Emma Clara and Ann Elizabeth. Only William, George, Henry, Emma and Ann survived past infancy. George arrived in Nelson, New Zealand in 1864. He met and married a local girl Susan Eliza Matthews and went on to have eight children (Clara Jane, Charles, Eliza Georgina, Maude, George, William, Walter and Frank).
