I'm trying to find out some info on this family found on the Doddridge Co. WV census.... 1870 Cook, James M., age 54 Cook, Mary J. Cook, age 57 Cook, William, age 16 1880 Cook, James H., age 69 Cook, Mary J. Cook, age 68 next door Cook, William C., age 27 Cook, Catherine, age 25 Cook, Jonh C., age 7 Cook, James E., age 4 Cook, William S., age 3 Cook, Luther C., age 1 This is how the story goes.... Notes for WILLIAM CAREY (WALTON) COOK: Greenburg and Hannah Davis Walton were the parents of William Carey Walton. When he was a small child, his parents died. An aunt, Mary, who was married to a Cook, Samuel, raised him. He took the name of Cook and when he married Catherine Lattea it was the name he used. After Catherine passed away William married Mary Ann Shipman. This time he married under the name of Walton. It was said of the children of William and Catherine that the boys used the name Cook and the girls Walton. I believe that it was in fact James & Mary who raised William, not Samuel. I have not been able to locate anything for over a year using the front door looking for Greenburg & Hannah. So, I've deceided to try the back door and see if I can find out anything on his aunt Mary who raised him. I still don't know if it was his father's or mother's sister but thought I would give it a shot. Thanks in advance. Jeanne
