Hi Judith I'm in Sydney Australia, and have English COOKs who were from western Oxfordshire and I think (off the top of my head) also Gloucestershire, but probably earlier than your given dates. I know that one particular marriage was in Little Barrington, Gloucestershire, in 1832 - Philip COOK & Sarah STRATFORD (Sarah was from Little Barrington). Philip was born 1788/89 Swinbrook, Oxfordshire, near the Gloucestershire border. Philip's parents were William COOK & Mary ANDREWS, born 1755 & 1746 respectively, both Taynton Oxfordshire though not certain about Mary. Are any of these names familiar at all? Just thought I'd reply on the off-chance! I know nothing of any of my COOKs migrating to America, but one of Philip's sons, Edmund, came to Australia in the 1890s as a widower, with his children - including my maternal grandfather Arthur. Of course someone in one of the extended COOK family of the time may have sailed the Atlantic. Being such a common name it's impossible to trace everyone! I don't know of any coal miners in the family, only that my line were bakers. Sorry I can't help at all with where to look for US material; I haven't had need to look into that at all, yet.
