There is also a group of German cooks that history books say they came from the Shenandoah Valley but they actually came from in Pennsylvania and came through the Shenandoah Valley. The founded a fort called cooks fort about 1770 on cook's creek close to what is now Greenville, west Virginia. A famous Methodist preacher, Valentine Cook, is descended from one of them and named after the other. Some have said he was English but I don't buy that because they moved to the area where Cook's fort is with other German families and Valentine Cook spoke fluent German. They did not teach German in schools at that time or the college he attended. Valentine Cook later moved to Logan county Kentucky. -----Original Message----- From: cook-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cook-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of epcookjr Sent: Sunday, November 05, 2006 7:51 PM To: cook@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [COOK] Fw: Daniel Cook There is an entire website and news group on the germanna colony.
