John ‘Jack’ Cook CULPEPER, Va. — John “Jack” Cook, 75, of 14014 Scantlin Mountain Road, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville following one month of declining health and nine days in the hospital. Born Feb. 14, 1927 in Lynchburg, he was a son of Hattie Sue Cook Heffinger. He was married Sept. 28, 1992, to Gayle Herritt Cook, who survives. He lived his early life in Eden, N.C.; Fairfax; and the last 10 years in Culpeper. He was retired from Metropolitan Roofing Company in Alexandria, where he worked as owner and operator for 50 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include two daughters, Rhonda Cook and Renee Cook, both of Fairfax; two brothers, Tommy Heffinger of Eden, N.C. and Billy Heffinger of Concord, N.C.; seven sisters, Rebecca H. Squires of Danville, Juanita H. Mullins of Independence, Shirley H. Surgnier of Hickory, N.C., Margie H. Atkins, Jane Heffinger, and Patsy H. Reynolds, all of Stoneville, N.C., and Judy H. Talbert of Eden, N.C.; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by one brother, Timothy E. Heffinger. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Rick Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Cemetery in Eden, N.C. The family will receive friends from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times at the residence of Rebecca Squires, 3597 Westover Drive. Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
