In addition to posting the copies of Kentucky Death Certificates to the various lists, I discovered (with a little help from some friends) that Rootsweb.com has two (2) areas that also work well for posting this important information. (1) The Kentucky County Boards (that used to be the GenConnect boards) is a great place to post this information. They even have a category called: Death ... (convenient, eh?). (2) The Kentucky Death Index is on line at Rootsweb and can be gotten to on the homepage by clicking on "search everything" under the heading "research templates." The "search everything" page brings up the listed databases and KY Death is one. You can type in the name and county of the person who is named on the death certificate in the search engine. When the search is completed and the database page comes up, look all the way to the right for a link called "add". When you click on "add," it brings up a fill-in-the-blanks form for you to enter the appropriate information. Don't let the "password" requirement at the end of the form throw you. Pick a password of your own choosing and enter it so that if you have to edit the information, you have access to it later. Without the "password" requirement, the form won't let you enter the information on the document. Just pick one you'll remember! Also remember that you can do the same with the SSAN death index. If you have collected SSAN application forms during your research, you can go into the SSAN Death Index at Rootsweb and add the information contained on the document the same way. I've been doing this "add" thing at SSDI for some time, now and it's worth the time. I'm grateful that Rootsweb has this "add" feature, because I'm hoping that someone else will have "added" something I need one of these days, so I don't have to spend big bucks to get it from the Govt. agencies! Anyway, thought it might help share the wealth of all those documents you all have in your files that someone else probably needs, too!
