    3. Elnora, Thanks for the e-mail. The problem is that at least 10 of the lines shown on the Cook DNA page could possibly be the missing link for my one and only Cook. Unfortunately, the paper trail for most of these seems to be off limits. My Cook ancestor was a woman who was apparently married in Orange County, NC about 1780. She and her husband moved to Bedford County, TN in the very early 1800s and died there. Since this is not an all male line, I cannot participate in the Cook DNA testing and don't know of an all male Cook line from the original immigrant to the present. 3. Robert, I would keep my eyes on that DNA Page- hopefully someone is going to test that will have your paper trail- and you will have a "Wonderful Bingo" like we did on this List back in 1997 before the DNA Project was thought of. But because of the DNA Project we have found at least 2 more very close for sure and 3 distant from the DNA List. Really hope you find some answers soon, Elnora Frances Cook-Wyrick ----- Original Message ----- From: "ROBERT NICHOLSON" <robertnicholson1@cox.net> To: <cook@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 10, 2006 3:56 PM Subject: Re: [COOK] COOK DNA TESTING / NC / TN > Elnora, > > Thanks for the e-mail. 3. Ron, Is your Cook line German or English? Does it have any connection with Orange County, NC? Were they Evangelical Lutherans in the late 1700s and early 1800s? Are the names Catherine, Christina, John and Henry common in your line? Are there any connections with the Shofner or Helton (Hilton) families in that time frame? I've got a lot of questions but very few answers. 3. Catherine Cook married Martin Shofner, apparently in Orange County, NC, in 1780. They lived in Orange County, NC until the first decade of the 1800s and then moved to Bedford County, TN where they lived for the remainder of their lives. Their daughter, Eve Shofner, married William Holt in Orange County, NC in the late 1790s and also moved to Bedford County, TN with the Shofners. These four people are my direct ancestors. In addition, a Christina Cook married Frederick Shoffner, Martin Shofner's brother. They remained in Orange County, NC for the remainder of their lives. Further, Martin Shofner served as the bondsman for the 1796 marriage of a John Cook to Hannah Helton in Orange County, NC. Also, the Shofners had numerous other contacts and real estate transactions with John Cook and Henry Cook. The above Cooks were probably related with Catherine Cook and Christina Cook probably being sisters and John and Henry Cook their brothers or other close relatives. About 1817, a John Cook served as a witness to a real estate transaction between Abraham Helton, Sr., and Abraham Helton, Jr., in Bedford County, TN. These Cooks may be of German origin. I have yet to see anything that would suggest they were English or related to the Cooks described in the book on Cooks in Bedford County, TN.
