I keep forgetting to mention this. I was reading a Web site link called Cyndi's List, or something to that effect. She had links posted to visit to search out genealogy stuff. Anyway, she mentioned something that I had thought about, but I didn't know you could actually do this, and that is, writing the FBI for records of family. I think you have to choose one family member, and request all the records that they have. I think anything over 125 pages or so is something that you have to pay for, so at least enclose a check for $25. She said that they have just about all the records on anyone in their files and it can be used for genealogy purposes, although she said that most people are paranoid about writing the FBI, but they do have a division that does this believe it or not. I thought about it because I have a very old typewritten letter from my Uncle Curtis Cook who passed away in '71 in Wichita Falls, TX. At the time that he typed this letter to a relative, he was an editor of a newspaper there. And in the letter he mentions some family tree information that some Cooks in our family had that traced us back to England. He said the Secret Service investigated his son, Carroll Cook, because his son went to work for the AP and was at various times overseas doing some kind of correspondence work that could end up being secret or something like that. And that anytime that happens, your family line is totally investigated. Now I'm wondering if I should try this. Maybe this is kind of a stupid question, but is the Secret Services basically the same thing as the FBI? Regardless, the FBI should have something, I suppose. Thanks, Susie
