Hi~ I'm currently researching Thomas Cook, the brother of my husband's 3rd great-grandfather. He was born around 1802 in the area that is now Buffalo, New York, and after their dad died, their mother remarried and moved to Fort Erie in Ontario, Canada. If anyone is connected to this family, I would LOVE to hear from you! I'd be happy to share and/or exchange information with anyone who is interested. Thanks, and take care! This is very interesting to me. But the timelines do not quite line up with my ancestors. My (3 greats) grandfather Elisha Cook lived in Oneida County, NY, in 1813 when his son Horace Cook was born. He later moved west to Erie County,PA, in NW Pennsylvania by 1830, but he could have easily gone to the Buffalo, NY, area after that. His son Horce Cook was married in 1835 to a Sophia Bligh who was from Delaware County, NY. The marriage listing is in the Buffalo, NY area listings of early marriages. We think that Elisha may have been born in CT. His wife was. Her name was Hannah (last name I don't know.) I wonder if your ancestors could have been related at all to these Cooks. I read somewhere that there were some Cook brothers who were laborers on the Erie Canal in NY. Good luck on your search. Thomas's father was supposed to have been from Massachusetts when the Revolutionary War started. I think he was probably a Loyalist since Thomas's mother appears to be from Canada, and they were living just across the border from Ontario. His parents names are supposed to be Robert Cook and Mary Lapp, but I'm not 100% sure on the father's name. My husband descends through the older son, Robert Cook, who settled in Ontario for a little while, and eventually made his way down to Clinton county, Iowa and settled in there until his death. We're really stuck on Robert's and Thomas's dad. We don't have much, if any, concrete information on him at the moment. I'm hoping that researching Thomas's family might unearth something! My ancestors, (Elisha Cook's son Horace, his wife and mother}, also came to Clinton County, IA in the 1840's. We think Elisha was born in CT. His wife Hannah was born in CT in 1776. They went to Oneida County, NY and finally to Erie County, PA., where Elisha is listed in the 1830 census. Do you think there is any connection at all? Thanks and wouldn't it be fun sometime to find these ancestors' roots? -----Original Message----- From: cook-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cook-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Justina Cook Sent: Tuesday, October 10, 2006 3:18 PM To: cook@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [COOK] Thomas Cook family of Welland & Lincoln Cos., Ontario,Canada Thomas's father was supposed to have been from Massachusetts when the Revolutionary War started.
