    1. Re: [COOK] COOK DNA TESTING / NC / TN
    2. ROBERT NICHOLSON
    3. Ron, Is your Cook line German or English? Does it have any connection with Orange County, NC? Were they Evangelical Lutherans in the late 1700s and early 1800s? Are the names Catherine, Christina, John and Henry common in your line? Are there any connections with the Shofner or Helton (Hilton) families in that time frame? I've got a lot of questions but very few answers. There may be someone in it through the James M. Cook line. (Do you happen to know for what the "M" stands? Robbie Cook Purser RobbiePurser@aol.com

    2. EDW A COOK
    3. For all the Cooks' considering or want to know more about the DNA process, please read the article in Family Tree Magazine, October 2006. Maureen A. Taylor does a super job, from my standpoint, in her article---Adventures in Genetic Genealogy (or, What I learned About My Family History From a Few Cheek Cells). I attended a DNA Conference in January 2006 and discovered the possibilities of DNA. Having a major brick wall, I felt this would overcome the barrier of my great-great-grandfather, Horatio Ross Cook earlier years. This wasn't the case, I didn't connect with a COOK lineage. Maybe my great-great-grandfather was adopted. Hopeful something will happen in the near future. I feel that my 37-marker test by Family Tree DNA did the job. I may consider addition testing. Whatever the case, my grandchildren will have the opportunity to learn of their ancestors. Would I do it again? Of course, I wouldn't hesitate for one minute. Now it's easier, just a few cheek cells and what your plastic (credit card) will take. Maureen A. Taylor has made it easy and it's a good read. Hope you can obtain a copy at your local library or newsstand. Edward Cook Sarasota, FL

    3. Robert,My Cooks moved to Bedford county in about 1820. Ron Cook -----Original Message----- From: cook-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cook-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of ROBERT NICHOLSON Sent: Tuesday, October 10, 2006 3:56 PM To: cook@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [COOK] COOK DNA TESTING / NC / TN Elnora, Thanks for the e-mail. The problem is that at least 10 of the lines shown on the Cook DNA page could possibly be the missing link for my one and only Cook. Unfortunately, the paper trail for most of these seems to be off limits. My Cook ancestor was a woman who was apparently married in Orange County, NC about 1780. She and her husband moved to Bedford County, TN in the very early 1800s and died there. Since this is not an all male line, I cannot participate in the Cook DNA testing and don't know of an all male Cook line from the original immigrant to the present. 1. [COOK] James M Cook
    2. Robbie, I do not know about Daniel Cook. The earliest information I have on James M. is an 1840 census in Montgomery Co. Alabama. He is enumerataed with his brother William A. Cook. By 1850 James is 50 and William is 42. They each have a Middleton woman living with them. James has Elizabeth Middleton age 40 and William has Rachel Middleton age 69 (whom I am assuming is his mother-in-law). Pat S.

    1. [COOK] George Cook NY abt 1800
    2. Hi all, I'm trying to track down my 4th gr grandfather George Cook. Virtually all we know about him is that he died in 1826 in Westfield MA, supposedly in a fall from the belfry of a church. We do know that he had 2 girls (Mary Georgeanna, and Kate Cook) born 1825 and 1826 respectively. We also have information that his wife had the surname Wemyss but that's not for certain. Mary Georgeanna was born around the Poughkeepsie area hence the link to NY. If anyone has a missing George in the Eastern NY, MA area that was born around the 1790's to 1800ish let me know. Dave

    3. Edward I think you have Lizzie's Birthdate off some or she wasn't born till after she got married... Wow there were actual Native Floridian's in the 1800's, now a days it's rare to find one. I'm proud to be one of the rare few.
