    1. Re: [COOK] COOK DNA TESTING / NC / TN
    2. I am searching for information on my Cook line. I know they came to Al from Bedford Va . sometime late 1700's to early 1800's and settled in Franklin County Al at Cook's Bluff .They lived in a cave under the bluff until the home was built . The First Cook ancestor I have found is John Cook married to Martha White . They had several children one of whom was Polly who went on to marry James Malone . At some point in time the Cook's moved to Texas in a covered wagon, according to family , as that was where my grandfather was conceived .They came back to Al before he was born. they then settled in Lawrence County . John ,James ,Abner, Sarah, and Mary Catherine are all prominent names. If anyone has info on this line I would love to hear from them.

    1. [COOK] Robert, John & James Cook, late 1700s, Surry Co, NC
    2. I can't believe the Cook activity. I have a two-fold question: 1. Who were Robert Cook's parents and where did they come from? 2. Does anyone have a paper trail connecting Robert Cook to his grandson James Cook? Robert Cook and family were in Caroline Co, VA in 1765. However Robert Cook and son Thomas obtained a Granville land grants in the Townfork Settlement in Surry Co. in 1760. Robert Cook also had a son John Cook and John had a son James Cook (b cir. 1757) who was my ggg grandfather. I have seen lots of data and even books that state this connection but no hard proof. Robert Cook's will was probated in Surry Co, NC in 1780 along with an inventory of his possessions. John was mentioned in his will. James Cook's will was probated in Surry Co, NC in 1828. These wills can be found at www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/surry.htm . I would appreciate any info concerning these Cooks. I have good info on James Cook. I have done a DNA sample but have no connections thus far. If any male relative of either Robert or James Cook has done a DNA please contact me. 1. [COOK] Elizabeth COOK : NC>OH
    2. Jim Cook
    3. Hi Sandi- I believe, although I have yet to prove, that this is part of my COOK line. My ggg-grandparents are James Cook and Mary Angel, who were married in 1831 in Gallia Co. OH. James Cook has been my COOK brick wall for many years. Over the last couple years, though, I've found that the ANGEL (or ANGELL) families of Gallia OH were sons of the Rev John Angell from the Stokes/Surry area of NC and that they were intermarried with a COOK family. Your COOKs below are said to be part of that line as well. I don't have any primary information for this yet, just people's trees posted here and there. The father of Ann and Elizabeth is typically listed as a Henry COOK (b. 1740 in MD of PA) who married Elizabeth Angell, the brother of the Rev John Angell. Although I've rarely found anyone with a complete tree for this family, they seem to have had several possible children including: Ann Cook m. William Knight Elizabeth Cook m. William Garlick George Cook m. Nancy Benefield Juda Cook m. Berry Angell Cornelius Cook m ? A lot of this is based on speculation - and like I say, you should probably take it with a grain of salt, I've had a real hard time trying to find primary records for this family. But I think that my James Cook may be the son of Cornelius Cook. The Henry Cook who married Elizabeth Angel is said to be descended from a Neal (Cornelius) Cook who was born abt 1657 in England or Ireland and died in Chester Co., PA in 1738. I have participated in the COOK DNA project without any close COOK matches so far. If anyone out there is a known direct COOK descendant of this Neal COOK line, please get in touch with me. I'd love it if we could compare results in the DNA project. Jim Cook Message: 6 Date: Tue, 10 Oct 2006 21:43:36 EDT From: Gobobcats22@aol.com Subject: [COOK] Elizabeth COOK : NC>OH To: cook@rootsweb.com Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Looking for ancestry of (no known Cook males to do DNA tests): Elizabeth COOK. born circa 1780 NC per census records married on/abt Sep 15, 1798 in Stokes Co, North Carolina to William Garlic/k died before 1847 Gallia Co, Ohio I have her marriage bond abstracted below: Groom: William Garlick Bride: Elizabeth Cook Bond Date: Sep 15, 1798 County: Stokes, North Carolina Bondsman: George Cook Witness: Henry B. Dodson AND Groom: William Knight Bride: Ann Cook Bond Date: Dec 12, 1799 County: Stokes, North Carolina Bondsman: George Cook Witness: H. B. I have been told that George COOK, their bondsman, was a brother and their father was William COOK bc 1740 & mother was Elizabeth Angell. Does anyone connect to this family? Thank you, Sandi

    2. Regretfully, I do not know any of these answers. It is just what "they have said" in days prior to my interest. I understand that there were several Mordecai Cooks. Of course, our Mordeca (of England) was supposed to have had a Daniel Cook, born in England. That Daniel Cook had an Abram (Abraham) Cook, born in Maryland, who m. Feebe (Phoebe) Mastin of Virginia. Abram Cook had a Daniel Cook ( who m. Ruth Moultrie) and they had a son, Daniel Cook. The last Daniel Cook m. Martha Warren Norwood (Darlington, SC) and they came in 1807 to Camden (Wilcox County), AL where they built beautiful Cook Hill which continues to stand. There are several Daniels mentioned above and the name continues! Any help will be appreciated. Robbie Cook Purser RobbiePurser@aol.com

Here is some information that I hope will help somebody Cook(e): 2 Brothers, both sons of Richard Cook and Elizabeth Story, ( Richard and Elizabeth were both born Ireland and settled Augusta) married in Eastern Ontario but were living before, during and after their marriages in California. 005387-76 Leeds Grenville Crosby Cook,30, Dairyman, born Augusta, living in Marin County Ca, S/O Richard Cook and Elizabeth Story, married Mary Ann Graham, 24, Born South Mountain Tp SDG, living in Oxford Tp, D/O William John Graham and Jane Thompson, Dec 22nd, 1875 at Oxford. Wit: Thomas Cook (brother?) and Ellan "?Minidel??? " Minaker? of Oxford. Crosby and Mary Ann were in Marin County, Tomales in the 1880 USA census with no children as of 1880. I have no further information on them but those Augusta Cooks did get about!! 010289-74 John Cook,33,Batchelor, born Augusta, living in Valleyford, Sonoma, Ca, S/O Richard Cook and Elizabeth Cook married Margaret Forward, born Matilda, SD&G, Living in Winchester, SD&G, D/O James and Ann Forward, May 19, 1874 at Winchester. Witnesses were James and Thomas Forward. 1880 USA Census finds John and Margaret living near his bro Crosby but in a different county, Sonoma, Ca. The couple has a daughter Gertrude M Cook aged one year. Did they stay in Ca ? Do they have descendents there? I have not yet establsihed a paper trail but I postulate that the Augusta Cooks somehow tie to the Elizabethtown Cooks via the Story family. My great Grand Mother was Sarah Jane Cooke, born Feb 4th 1836 to parents Robert and Sarah Jane, St Peters, Brockville, Elizabethtown. We think, but maybe can never prove, that our Sarah Jane, who was often confused as Sarah ANN, was at the Inn run by Thomas Story in Escott as enumerated in the 1852 census. (Enumerated January 1852). >From a militia roll I know that Robert Cooke was 36 years in 1829 so born about 1793 .I surmise the couple may have married in Ireland, emmigrating in the 1820s. Robert and Sarah Jane Cooke had children 1828-1837 as recorded by Lisa Russel at the Ontario Diocese, in Elizabethtown but then they just disappear!! They remain very elusive. 3. Hi K. Powell - Thanks very much for your input to my David Cook, but yes I knew about the other Cook's in Ulster Co., NY. I have not been able to connect to any of them. The reason I have Seely's birthplace as being Orange Co., NY is because his Ohio death certificate shows Orange as his birthplace. To answer your question about the Susannah Cook found in Congress Twp., Morrow Co., Ohio on the 1850 census, printed page 461. She is the mother of John Bartlett Cook, her husband David has deceased. The wife of John is Susan Schanck and I find all three of them living in the same household on page 461. You have confused me a little when you say that Susannah is two pages over from whoever you meant two pages back. Who was that person? It is hard to read but I read Susannah's birth state as being NY. You may be right in saying it looked like NJ. I was consulting Ancestry's online census listings for my information. If you should find that any of this makes you think you might be related to that family I have more to share. Regards, Ben
