Sorry NO DANIEL COOK
With all the Cook's that are migrating to Alabama does anyone have a Benjamin Cook born about 1771 in Virginia. He moved to GA at some point before Nov 1810 where I believe he married as a second wife Elizabeth Hudson in Elbert Co. He had at least one daughter named Lucy born ca 1805. She married John S GREEN Oct 1 1822 in Hancock Co., GA. The Green's moved around that time to Montgomery Co. AL and were living in the area of that county which became Macon Co. Benjamin was in Macon Co AL by the 1840 census. Benjamin died March 7 1852 in Macon Co. Any help finding any info on this family would be greatly appreciated. Who was Benjamin's first wife, were the other children? Who were his parents and/or siblings. This line has been a tall brick wall that I'd love to see tumble or at least crumble a bit.
Who do you show as Benjamin's brothers? RobbiePurser@aol.com
Do you have info on a Daniel Cook who came from NC or SC ("Chesterfield Dist.") to AL. He settled in the Camden, AL area (near Possum Bend). Do you know who his father mgiht be? RobbiePurser@aol.com (Robbie Cook Purser)

Hi Judith I'm in Sydney Australia, and have English COOKs who were from western Oxfordshire and I think (off the top of my head) also Gloucestershire, but probably earlier than your given dates. I know that one particular marriage was in Little Barrington, Gloucestershire, in 1832 - Philip COOK & Sarah STRATFORD (Sarah was from Little Barrington). Philip was born 1788/89 Swinbrook, Oxfordshire, near the Gloucestershire border. Philip's parents were William COOK & Mary ANDREWS, born 1755 & 1746 respectively, both Taynton Oxfordshire though not certain about Mary. Are any of these names familiar at all? Just thought I'd reply on the off-chance! I know nothing of any of my COOKs migrating to America, but one of Philip's sons, Edmund, came to Australia in the 1890s as a widower, with his children - including my maternal grandfather Arthur. Of course someone in one of the extended COOK family of the time may have sailed the Atlantic. Being such a common name it's impossible to trace everyone! I don't know of any coal miners in the family, only that my line were bakers. Sorry I can't help at all with where to look for US material; I haven't had need to look into that at all, yet. Martha Thank you for that! I will give it a try. regards Judith
Marilyn, usually on the genweb sites there's a place to query which county a town is in. There's also a query page for the State as well as the Counties. Have you searched Ancestry's PA records? How on earth would anyone know the county back in the 1700 or 1800 hundreds? All I know for sure is birth in Philadelphia 1843 and then I need to know a district or a prescient or a township. That info is all unknown. Thanks, Marilyn Cook Young
Judith: I have a book "PA Marriages Before 1790" but that won't help you. You might try www.usgenweb.com, click on the State then click on the County. Post a query for a marriage lookup and some kind soul just might help you. Martha
Judy Many thanks for your reply. I don't think that this is the same family. I know that Sampson's father was Samuel born 1807, and his was John born circa 1787. All three were born in Oldland or Bitton, Gloucestershire although I don't yet know who John's father was, or where John was born for sure. regards Judith
