    1. Re: [COOK] Tracing my Cooks
    2. Our Cooks did come from England and the earliest known was a Daniel Cook of England (wife's name unknown). This Daniel and wife had a son, Abram Cook born in Maryland, who m. Feebe Mastin of Virginia, Abram and Feebe Mastin Cook had (another) son, Daniel Cook, who m. Martha Warren Norwood dau. of (Capt.) John and Mary Warren Dubose Norwood, Darlington, SC. Daniel and Martha Norwood Cook came to Alabama via GA, where they settled in Possum Bend, near Camden, AL (Wilcox County) and built beautiful Cook Hill which continues to stand, is on tour from time to time and continues to be owned by Cooks. Nearby is the Cook Family Cemetery where Daniel and Martha and several generations of Cooks are interred. Our "Cook" line is most anxious to learn of other Cooks who came from England and to find where there may be a connection. Of course, we do not know the names of our "first Daniels" parents, nor from what area of England they might have come. We do not know on which boat he came. Any info on Cook that you may be able to provide will be most appreciated. Is there a book written on your line of Cooks? We have a red hard-backed book, Book of Cooks, written by Cook and Newell. Wife Bertha May Hackler born February 04, 1885 Garnett, Anderson Kansas died March 11, 1948 Cherryvale Kansas children: Edward Cook Harold Cook Viola Cook Hazel Ruth Cook b: December 14 1915 death May 1984 It has also been passed down that the Cook's on my side were not in the US as long as some other families and that they came from England. I remember where in the last 90's you could actually afford Ancestry because they had one price for all their data and it was under $40 a year. With everything available at our fingertips the challenge is disappearing and that was the whole fun of Genealogy research.
