I am looking for any family connection to Algernon Cook (b.2 Dec 1897) and Flosie Coggin (b.May 19 1900). They had one son John Alan and I have that information. I am trying to track parents, and family members of Brother, JT. Any help would be appreciated.
I was told when searching for great grandfather, born in Philadelphia 1843, that there were no birth records before that year. I checked with libraries and vital statistics in Philadelphia. Good luck
Wallace Earl, I was amused of your remarks. I agree about census reports and the location---County Clare, Ireland. My grandfather, Thomas Blake, was born in County Clare ca. 1849. He married my great-grandmother in 1871 in Kentucky. Several years ago, I made an attempt to trace his origin, but it didn't happened. Thanks for your note. Hi, It was interesting to read the outcome of your situation. I continue to look for "our" Daniel Cook. Do let me know of ANY Daniel Cooks of England or Ireland. He came into Maryland. We may never "find him" but continue posting and checking. RobbiePurser@aol.com

My guess is that your Cook is from the minisink, where 3 states, PA NJ NY adjoin. The county in NJ would be Sussex, in PA it's Wayne & Pike then, and most records I know of up in there into the time period you're looking into would be DRC, Dutch Reformed Church - you'd be looking for christening, I think - but could be in any of the 3 states. In NY that's Orange County which expands by 1800 to eat up a big piece of Ulster Co. A look at a map shows how close the minisink also is to MD and DE over water. There is a rootsweb email list specifically for minisink researchers, don't miss it. I don't find census for Sussex Co until 1830. It's important to know that people crossed the river back & forth commonly whether for church, trade, or to escape indian raids earlier - there were ferries. Ports in the minisink area commonly had folks coming & going up & down the Atlantic coast. By 1850 census in Orange Co NY you can find people born TX or anywhere. I had NY folks leave there & cross VA into OH by 1818. familysearch.org has a file on him but doesn't give parents, only birth 21 Mar 1819, death 10 Feb 1886, married Helena Holmes Meyer Miller. I wonder if there might have been a Horatio Ross of the Continental Line in Essex County ... many children that time & place were given honorific names. The Revolution through War of 1812-14 were real important events in those folks' lives. > Date: Thu, 1 Feb 2007 22:27:05 -0500 > From: "EDW A COOK" <augcook@msn.com> > Subject: [COOK] Cooks of New Jersey and Pennsylvania > > My brick wall is HORATIO ROSS COOK, born ca. 1818 in New Jersey or > Pennsylvania. My brick wall is HORATIO ROSS COOK, born ca. 1818 in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. He stated New Jersey as state of birth on all census documents. I believe, he was born close to both states. Names of parents not known. On the 1880 Census, he stated that his father was born in New Jersey and his mother was born in Maryland. He came to live in Augusta, GA in ca. 1826 to live with an aunt, according to his obituary in February 1886. He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1841 and established his practice in Beech Island, SC, across the Savannah River from Augusta, GA. The aunt may have been Eliza Keating, not documented. I had a DNA test (37-marker) in June 06 without a hit in my COOK line. However, I did have a minor hit with the KYLE surname. My two contacts dismissed it as a fluke. I'm not so sure. My question---What birth records would be available around 1818 in New Jersey and Pennsylvania? I appreciate your assistance in this matter. All suggestions are welcomed. Edward A. Cook (in Florida)
My source for the little I have is from searching on Judah and Anna's husband, Jacob Bartlett: Bartlett, Thomas Edward, The Bartletts. Ancestral, genealogical, biographical, historical., (New Haven, Connecticut, Stafford Printing Co., 1892), p.56: "[Jacob Bartlett] was b. Feb. 24, 1751, in Cumberland, R.I.; m. 1st, Judah Cook, 2nd, Anna Cook, both wives being daughters of Samuel Cook, of Smithfield, R.I. ...........Jacob and his brother Abner removed from Cumberland to Danby about 1795. They settled near the present homestead of Willard Baker, in Danby. Jacob's house was near the old road, now discontinued. He was a Quaker. He was the first one in town to carry on blacksmithing; this he followed many years. Some of his work done in his establishment in 1797, is still to be seen. He died in Granville, N.Y., Jan. 14, 1837 at 86. His wife Anna died in 1846, at 96." - Bartlett, pg. 56 (I have the names of all the Bartlett children if anyone needs them.) I have that Samuel Cook also was a blacksmith in Smithfield, Providence, Rhode Island but nothing more on him or his wife. I also have a note on this name: BE EXTRA CAREFUL!!! THIS NAME IS VULNERABLE TO THE FRAUDULENT WORK OF GUSTAVE ANJOU. Any help would be so very much appreciated. Thank you. Anne --------------------------------- TV dinner still cooling? I think we might have a connection. It's so close. Edward A. Cook (miner) and Myrtle Bennett. They were both from Missouri. They had a son born in 1914 in Cripple Creek, Colorado, named James Clyde (or Clyde James) Cook. At the time Edward was 36 and Myrtle was 18 years old. Clyde James Cook m. Mary Magdalene Clark and eventually settled in Woodside, California. They had 5 children oldest born in 1944 (3 still living) and 10 grandchildren. Other siblings of Clyde James were Jack Cook and Betty Jean Fuller. Hope we can hook up here. Constance Cook
Good morning, My Robert Carter COOK was b. 21 September 1809, in Yorkshire near the town of Marston, according to family recorded notes. Robert Carter COOK's parents were Henry J. COOK (b. 1767 we believe) and Prudence FOWLKS. Henry had a bachelor brother, John A. COOK. Robert's wife was Analine E. HAMLIN, b . 22 June 1822. We have no proof of her birthplace, but we know that Robert migrated to America about 1830, so that tells that she likely was b. in America. I have a cousin living in London who believes that her Hamlin line is linked to Hannibal HAMLIN, Lincoln's vice-president, but we have no proof of that. We do have a number of family letters giving us much information, including many dates and places. Our Cooks, dating from Robert Carter, came through Virginia, to Mississippi and Alabama, then to Illinois. Some of them then migrated on west to Kansas and other points west. It would be great to find some connection to other Cooks. Incidentally, two of my mother's cousins still live in the St. Louis area, one of whom is on the Illinois side. My mother's sister, Edna GRESHAM, 99, lives in Clearwater, FL, and her remaining brother, Phil COOK, 89, resides in Harlingen, TX. Thanks much for your response. Pat : Please don't leave me alone .......... you may have something for me someday ! My Minta was known as Minnie, but she married, Benjamin Martin Isaac..September 21, 1883 in Whitesburg, Letcher County Kentucky. She was his second wife, his first wife was , Rutha Vance and they were married, March 18, 1866 in, Floyd County Kentucky. My entire Isaac line went from Kentucky to Wayne County WV. Most researchers state that Benjamin's given name was Martin, But my mother and all of her sisters confirmed his name was Benjamin. his headstone reads Ben. My Minta was born June 1862 in Walnut Ridge, Stokes County, North Carolina. Feel free to contact me if you have further questions.
