Hi List, Here are some Cook's that show up in the Towle Genealogy report filed in 1972 by Muriel Moon, they are not from my dad's side but come into play on my mother's side. I will post them just in case you require further info on them. There are two familes: 1. Eleanor Fern Thornton m. George Cook, the parents of George Cook was John Cook and and Ottilia Metis. Eleanor & George had 3 children Ellen Lorraine, Allen Richard and Lorne Dale and they were born in the 1940's & 50's in Consort, Alberta, Canada. 2. William Earl Everett Fortey m. Ethel Florence Cox b. May 31, 1917. Ethel's parents were Charles Cox & Almida Cook. The 6 children were Barbara Joan, Doanld Earl, Ronaled Everett, Robert Ralph, David Glen & Marlene Linda in and around London, Ontario, Canada. Her father was Joseph Cook born in Pennsylvania about 1780 and came to Waterloo as a young child. Joseph married Martha Hines believed to have been born in Ireland. Marriage dates are unknown. I would like to know how to confirm the marriage dates and dates of deaths of these people. Thank you for any suggestions. D. Rankine rankine@bc.sympatico.ca >>
Hi Lester, You seem to have quite a bit of info on your ancestors. My 4ggrandfather, Thomas COOKE, came to Kingston Twp. in Frontenac Co., Ontario, Canada about 30 or so years before your Robert was born.. My Thomas was a British soldier who came to Quebec with the 34th Regiment, and stayed in Canada. His son, Thomas Jr, b. 1781 Kingston had at least 6 children born Kingston between 1806 & 1815. I doubt there is a connection, but you never can tell. Do you know what religion Robert Cook and Olive Maria Gillett were? The family then migrated to the Dakota Territory, BeadleCo and HandCo sometime before 1887 where Olive Maria homesteaded near Huron. Then most of the family including my Grandmother Ruth Caroline Cook migrated to Hughes Springs, Cass, TX. My Grandmother married Frank Leonard Clark and moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. Hi Gang, Been awhile since I posted here, just trying to get webmasters in their province, state or any country that they live in to host a page for the Historic Plaques of the World Project. You can check my main url below for what it is all about. Florida should be online at the end of the month or the begining of Jan. This project is very worthwhile, not only for its history but for the genealogical value that are in the plaques. The projecr is also listed with the project registry at the IIGS. Hope to hear from some of you. Regards Wayne Cook http://www.waynecook.com and your host for the Simcoe County Genweb page at http://www.waynecook.com/simcoe.shtml Wasasga Beach, Ontario, Canada 1. I've gotten back to Ann Cook (m. Nahum Daniels) who died 7 Apr 1800 in Newport, Herkimer Co, NY at age 26. She was the daughter of Dr. Samuel Cooke and Temperance Hedges/Hodges who lived in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co, NY. Dr. Samuel Cooke was a surgeon in the Rev. War and died in Poughkeepsie 26 May 1783 at about age 45. Besides Ann, their children were William Hedges Cooke, George Whitefield Cooke, Samuel Cooke, and Temperance Cooke. After Dr. Sam's death, the family moved to Herkimer Co, NY. His widow, Temperance, died August 1813 at age 77, and is buried in Newport Cemetery next to daughter Ann Cook Daniels. "Genealogies of Connecticut Families From The New England Historical and Genealogical Register" Vol. 1, 1983, pages 477-479, gives the family of Thomas Cooke of Guilford, CT, with a Samuel whose dates fit the above, to wit: Thomas Cooke, d 1 Dec 1692, m 1 Elizabeth ____; 2 Mrs. Hannah Lindon. Thomas Cooke, Jr. 1642-1703, m Sarah Mason Rev. Samuel Cooke, 23 Nov 1687 - 2 Dec 1747, m 4 times, #1 Anna Trowbridge Samuel Cooke, 22 July 1711 - 26 March 1788, m Susannah Mansfield Samuel Cooke, born or baptised 31 Dec 1738; A.B., Yale, 1758; d. May, 1783, unmarried. The last looks great to be the same as my Dr. Sam, except for the "unmarried" part, of course! But the families had lived in New Haven, CT, for several generations, and Dr. Sam moved to Poughkeepsie, so would have perhaps lost contact with family members who stayed put. Anyone else fit into any of these lines? Looking for information on Noah Cook, his parents, siblings, children, etc. Noah Cook b. 1817/1820, New Haven, Huron County, Ohio son of John B. Cook and wife Julia Bwer (?). According to 1880 census John was born in South Carolina & Julia in Ohio. Can find no marriage record for John and Julia so far. According to 1820 census of Huron County, Ohio John and Julia had three sons (Noah, William, Alfred and one unknown) plus one daughter (unknown). Have no knowledge of what happened to John and Julia after this census. Noah married (1) 1843 Mary DeLaMater and had six daughters and one son Edwin who died in 1887. Noah and his family migrated to Dover Hill, Martin County, Indiana where he was a business man (hotel keeper). According to Indiana Business Gazeteers from 1859 through 1896 Noah lived in Washington, Vincennes, Evansville and Terre Haute, Indiana before migrating to Indianapolis after the 1880 census. Mary died 1885 and in 1886 Noah married (2nd) Melissa Henrietta Hyde. Their daughter Theresa Edna Cook b. 1887 was my grandmother. Noah died May 1897 in Danville, Illinois while visiting a daughter of his first family. He is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis with his two wives on either side of him. Would like to make contact with anyone having family information that would lead me to what happened to John B. & Julia Bwer Cook. Cannot locate them after 1820. Family seemed to move about a lot making them harder to find. thank you for your help.

I'm interested in any available information on the 16th Infantry Regiment, Maine Volunteers. The following is my connection. Edward is my ggrandfather. Edward C. Cooks military service. Served in Civil War in 16th, then 20th Infantry Regiment, Maine Volunteers. Drafted Oct. 13, 1864 into Co. C, 16th Inf. Regt. Suffered from rheumatism and chronic diarrhea. Hospitalized at 3rd Div. Hospital, 5th Army Corps, Hatchers Run, Feb. 1865, 4 or 5 weeks. Again at Field Hospital, Arlington Heights, May 16, 1865 until discharge. Transferred to Company K, 20th Inf. Reg. June 5, 1865. Mustered out July 27, 1865. He received a disability pension of $12/mo. I have extracted the above directly from the records from the National Archives. Not quite an illustrious military career. I do not know what part the 16th Infantry Regiment played in the war. Edward was in the 16th, fit and on his feet for no more than 6 months, some of which probably included training, as about 2 months of that time was spent in hospital. Edwards transfer to the 20th took place while he was hospitalized. And from the hospital he was mustered out. So he would have seen no actual service with the 20th. While I can find nothing written on the 16th Maine, I find it interesting that Edward was hospitalized at Hatchers Run right about the time the 20th Maine suffered a major defeat there, losing 24 men.
