Henry Cook is my gg-grandfather and I am stuck here, need to find siblings and parents of Henry and also maiden name of wife Annice. One of their sons my grt-grandfather was named "Lambert Clayton" Cook, when he was born in 1828 which is the same year that the Buncombe Co. NC pioneer "Lambert Clayton" died. One of "the" Lambert Claytons sisters married a Thomas Cook. I don't feel they named my g-grandfather after him just because they liked or respected him, I believe there is some connection between the Cook's and Claytons, I also am leaning toward it being Annice who is the link. Hey Cook Cousins, Here is my information again. I am primarily interested in John Cook and any siblings he may have had. John Cook originally came from Dorchester County, Maryland where he was born Oct 5, 1774 (according to his headstone). His father may have been a John Cook also. He moved to Pickaway County, OH with his family around 1810. He was recorded on the 1820 US Census as living in Deer Creek Township in Pickaway County. There are numerous other Cooks that lived in the Deer Creek Township area, but I have no proof that any of them were related. Then, according to Land Purchase Records from the State of Illinois and the U.S. Census, I am able to gather he moved to Knox County Illinois, purchasing land in Orange Township in 1835. According to cemetery records, he died November 16, 1845 and is buried in Cook Cemetery in Knox County, Illinois. His wife, Sarah "Sally" Bailey/Barclay is also buried there. She was born in Maryland on Jan 2, 1777 and died in Knox County on May 4, 1847. (It is wonderful what information they used to include on some headstones. Unfortunately, John's wife's maiden name was obscured so I'm still unsure whether it was Bailey or Barclay. There is a more than likely connection with a John Cook listed in the Daughters of the American Revolution having married Sally Bailey, daughter of George Bailey from Maryland who fought in the Revolution.) According to his probate records, John and Sarah had at least five children: Elizabeth (married a Donaca), Mark (married Sophia Godfrey), John (married Hester "Hettie" Holloway), Sarah (married Enoch Godfrey), and Charlotte (married B. John Cook married SOPHIA WADDAM or WADHAM by banns April 15, 1838, Parish of Stepney, in county of Middlesex. At this time JOHN COOK was a waterman living at 32 Edward Street John & Sophia had a son GEORGE WILLIAM COOK 24 March 1840 born, living in Limehouse. GEORGE WILLIAM COOK married ANN ROOTS 22 Dec. 1862 Stepney, St. Thomas, ParishMiddlesex. The family, according to lore, came from NC shortly after the Civil War in horse and wagon to VA on a three-month journey and then Wayne and Logan Counties in WV, Floyd and Johnson Co., KY and Greenup Co., KY. The son John married 1. Edith King d/o Tandy KING and Fanny HARRIS in Floyd Co., KY with chrn: Rosie Allifaire, Minnie, Cindy, Mary, and America. Married 2. Ella HALL of Foyd Co., KY with chrn. : Dewey, Henry, Sam, Corbit, Tiney, and Leona. By the mid to late 1920's, he had moved with his second family to Greenup Co., KY in the Chinn's Branch area and had assumed the name Hall (his wife's maiden name).
