Hello Everyone... My name is Simon J Cook... Born in London in 1969... I have been tracing my family history for a few years now and have finally turned my full attention on my paternal line. Unfortunately my grandfather died when my father was only 3 years old. Consequently tracing my paternal line has been a painstaking process... Below is a genealogy report from my grandfather to my Great Grandfather and that is where I am stuck... John Henry Cook & Margaret Rayner's marriage has so far eluded me... If anyone has any information then I'd love to here from you... I have never met any of the Cook side of the family (apart from my father of course) and it would wonderful to tie up with them.. Searching for parents of Thomas Preston Cook born 1880 Red Oak Ga., Jasper County.
Hi everybody! I certainly feel out of place with all the Cook mail coming in, but maybe if I write we'll hear from a few of the Koch side! I'm researching George Koch, born in Germany, in 1831 and moved to the U. S. in 1882. Family legend says he went first to North Dakota to homestead, but his wife couldn't handle the rough life. George was a carpenter and I can't imagine what he was doing turning farmer. I would like to try to find some evidence of their stay in North Dakota. I believe I need to know what county they were in to request land records. I would assume, that they may have purchased land while still in Germany. The problem is they couldn't have been there long, since their date of entry on his Declaration of Intent is Oct. 1882 and they seem to have arrived in Two Rivers, WI where they finally settled before the year was out. They had relatives in Two Rivers so it seems odd that they wouldn't have gone there first, unless they already had land. It's a needle in the haystack, but does anyone have any suggestions? Land records seem to be the only paper trail that might be left. Thanks for any suggestions! Milli

This is probably the same line as mine - if you'd care to peruse http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Fields/8379/index.html then let me know what you think - >I'm trying to definitely establish the parents of Nathan Cook, b. abt 1765 >Brunswick Co, VA; d. abt 1840, Hancock Co, GA. Our family tradition has him >as the son of Drury Cook. However, some researchers have identified only >two children of Drury, and neither of them Nathan. Drury had a brother, >John Cook, b.1738, Brunswick Co, VA, d. 1799 Hancock Co, GA. John named one >son Nathaniel Pearson Cook, the middle name his wife's maiden name. I'm >beginning to think that maybe Nathan and Nathaniel are one and the same, >and the son of John Cook. > what are your sources? - this line is one of those messed up by that Anjou, so be wary of your sources; you can see more on that as well on my page. with all the best of wishes to you and yours, your friend, potential cuz, and fellow researcher, anne-ology laginnis@bigfoot.com http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Fields/8379/index.html

Hello fellow COOKies! Its been awhile since my last post, so for the benefit of new folks to the list, here we go again! My earliest COOK is Philo COOK. He was born in Tompkins Co., New York on 3 OCT 1821. He married Lydia HALL (born 22 AUG 1818 in Ontario Co., New York). In the 1850 Federal Census for Yates Co., New York, town of Jerusalem, we find Philo and Lydia COOK listed, with child Jane. Philo's occupation being that of a peddlar of tin ware. Many other COOKs are listed in the area, but as of yet, I havent connected to any of them yet. According to the 1855 Federal Census for Yates Co., New York, town of Jerusalem, Philo and Lydia's first child, Jane COOK, was born about 1846 in that town in Yates Co. Other children listed were Loren, age 4, John, age 2, and Emily A., age 4 mos. According to this census, Philo had been living in Jerusalem, Yates Co., New York, since 1840, and Lydia had been there since 1841. Another COOK that caught my eye in the 1855 Census was a Seymore COOK, who was living with his sister, Hannah COOK, and her husband John PEARCE. Seymore was also born in Tompkins Co., New York, and was 26 years old in 1855. Seymore and Hannah's family is found in the 1850 census, with their parents Burnett and Thyzra, with their other siblings, Susan, Charles, Benjamin, Lucy, and Dewitt. Burnett was age 46 and Thyzra was age 42 in 1850, ruling them out as the parents of Philo COOK. (They would have been 15 and 11 when Philo was born). BUT there is a strong possibility that Burnett was either an uncle or brother to Philo. Philo, Lydia and family are also found on the 1860 Federal Census for Yates Co., New York, town of Milo. They arent seen again until the 1880 Federal Census in Lapeer Co., Michigan, Deerfield Twp. There they are found living without children. Philo died on 17 JUN 1882, in Deerfield Twp., Lapeer Co., Michigan, and was buried in the West Deerfield Cemetery there. Lydia is found in the 1894 Michgan State Census of Lapeer Co., in Deerfield Twp. She is living with her son John F. COOK, and his family. (In this census it states that Lydia's parents were born in Connecticut). Lydia died on 17 MAY 1903, in Deerfield Twp., Lapeer Co., Michigan. My COOK family lived in Lapeer Co., Michigan, until about 1965 when my father left there to join the US Army. I still have many, many, reletives living there now. If anyone has information on COOK families in the Lapeer Co., MI area, or Yates Co., NY or Tomkins Co., NY, please contact me! I have all COOK names in Yates Co., NY from copies of Census records dating from 1825-1855, if it would help anyone. Thanks so much for your time and HAPPY HUNTING!!!
