William Cook Birth Date: Before 1761 Birth Place: Germany Death Date: 22 Feb 1841 Military History of William Cook was posted in A. L. Cook's family record as follows: He enlisted about March 13, 1777 as a private for three years in a company commanded by Capt. David Smith, Col. Chandler's regiment of Connecticut troops. After having served about 18 months he was appointed Corporal and performed duties as corporal until the expiration of his term of service. (he was in Col. Sherman's regiment at the end of his service.) Residence of soldier at time of enlistment was Waterbury, Litchfield Co., Connecticut. (He resided in CT until about 1796, when he moved to Pompey, NY.) William Cook emigrated to America before the Revolutionary War was declared in 1776.According to family records there were five men by the name of Cook who came to America on the same vessel. It was said that all were related and four of them enlisted in the Army. (Census of Pensioners - Revolutionary or military Service, Printed by Blair & Rives 1841) In 1855, Albert Cook, the son of William and Asenath was a resident of Pompey, NY. [pension appl.] In 1819, Trueworthy Cook, a resident of Granby, Oswego County, NY stated that he enlisted in Waterbury, CT with the soldier William Cook, but did not state any relationship between them. Trueworthy was born 29 Sep 1758 in Litchfield, CT and died 29 Jul 1822 in Granby, NY.} In 1810, Census of Pompey, NY, these five Cooks are listed: Eli, Lemuel, Henry, Truworthy [sic], and William. Found cemetery listing on USGENWEB online for "Pompey Hollow - west of creek" in Pompey township, Onondaga county. It lists COOK, William (d. Feb. 22, 1841 ae 80) and Asenath (d. July 25, 1856 ae 78). Spouse: Asenath ________ Marriage Date: 26 Feb 1779 Children: Josiah John Enos (daughter) Albert

I've placed a TEMPORARY file on my web page that includes all the Cooks of Va who I have found reference to in the LVA concerning Wills and Adm's. They don't all have Wills, but these are mentioned in something associated with that county at that time. Hope you can find it of use. Feel free to copy, paste, rearrange, whatever will make it more useful to you. http://members.aol.com/e21339/cookwills.htm Edna Clack

Hello fellow COOKies! Its been awhile since my last post, so for the benefit of new folks to the list, here we go again! My earliest COOK is Philo COOK. He was born in Tompkins Co., New York on 3 OCT 1821. He married Lydia HALL (born 22 AUG 1818 in Ontario Co., New York). In the 1850 Federal Census for Yates Co., New York, town of Jerusalem, we find Philo and Lydia COOK listed, with child Jane. Philo's occupation being that of a peddlar of tin ware. Many other COOKs are listed in the area, but as of yet, I havent connected to any of them yet. According to the 1855 Federal Census for Yates Co., New York, town of Jerusalem, Philo and Lydia's first child, Jane COOK, was born about 1846 in that town in Yates Co. Other children listed were Loren, age 4, John, age 2, and Emily A., age 4 mos. According to this census, Philo had been living in Jerusalem, Yates Co., New York, since 1840, and Lydia had been there since 1841. Another COOK that caught my eye in the 1855 Census was a Seymore COOK, who was living with his sister, Hannah COOK, and her husband John PEARCE. Seymore was also born in Tompkins Co., New York, and was 26 years old in 1855. Seymore and Hannah's family is found in the 1850 census, with their parents Burnett and Thyzra, with their other siblings, Susan, Charles, Benjamin, Lucy, and Dewitt. Burnett was age 46 and Thyzra was age 42 in 1850, ruling them out as the parents of Philo COOK. (They would have been 15 and 11 when Philo was born). BUT there is a strong possibility that Burnett was either an uncle or brother to Philo. Philo, Lydia and family are also found on the 1860 Federal Census for Yates Co., New York, town of Milo. They arent seen again until the 1880 Federal Census in Lapeer Co., Michigan, Deerfield Twp. There they are found living without children. Philo died on 17 JUN 1882, in Deerfield Twp., Lapeer Co., Michigan, and was buried in the West Deerfield Cemetery there. Lydia is found in the 1894 Michgan State Census of Lapeer Co., in Deerfield Twp. She is living with her son John F. COOK, and his family. (In this census it states that Lydia's parents were born in Connecticut). Lydia died on 17 MAY 1903, in Deerfield Twp., Lapeer Co., Michigan. My COOK family lived in Lapeer Co., Michigan, until about 1965 when my father left there to join the US Army. I still have many, many, relatives living there now. If anyone has information on COOK families in the Lapeer Co., MI area, or Yates Co., NY or Tomkins Co., NY, please contact me! I have all COOK names in Yates Co., NY from copies of Census records dating from 1825-1855, if it would help anyone. Thanks so much for your time and HAPPY HUNTING!!! Jacob left a a Will or there was some kind of court settlement for the years 1752/1758 in Chesterfield Co, Va. In 1818, A Jacob Cook shows up in Rhea County, Tn. I know that's a loooooog stretch, but it's the only connection to Va I've been able to find. Does anyone have something on the Jacob of Chesterfield? It states in his papers that his 'orphans to be bound out." Edna Clack
I should have been more specific in previous email. Jasper was married in 1845 to Althea Woodward or Underwood, in Rhea Co., Tn. Can't find him before or after that date. Edna Clack
Anyone at all out there researching the Cook family of Tennessee? Would sure like to compare notes. Edna Clack

I'm not looking for Philip, but am looking for Cooks that were in Indiana at least for a short time. They are believed to be Quakers (at least Aaron Mills and Jessie Ann Cook Mills were Quakers, so I'm assuming that Jessie came from a line of Quakers). I'm searching for these family members: Jesse Cook b. 15 Sep 1793, d. 19 Sep 1859, m. Hannah (Marshill?) Children: Milton Cook Probably others... Jessie Ann Cook I have plenty of info from Aaron/Jessie on down to the present, and know that Milton is used as a middle name for some of my relatives, but have not been able to find any records yet of Milton or Jesse. I don't have anything to help you but more questions...I am looking for my great great grandmother Ada. A. Cook, have a marriage liciience with ner name listed as Ada A. Cook married Lamar County, Alabama to Joseph Farley in around 1847. Her mother signed for her, but her mother is listed as Lucy Brown. I think she remarried after having Ada. In 1910 census of Lamar County, Alabama, I find the family living there along with Ada's widowed mother Lucy Brown. Ada A. Cook lists on the census that she came from south Carolina, but her mother from Mississippi. Do you think we may be looking for the same people????? Pat North Carolina
Good day all, Yes, it's an odd subject line -- but it is about the only link I have to a very elusive lady. Alfred E. COOK, b. 10/3/1850 in Lloydtown, Ontario, married Amanda Melinda BLOOD on 8/14/1873 in Stockbridge, Wisconsin. Amanda was one of ten children of Louis Phelps BLOOD & Henrietta RUNNELS. Nathan Phelps BLOOD was a son of Louis Phelps BLOOD and Martha (UNKNOWN) -- that's the BIG question. Who were Martha's Parents? Thanks to all for reading this. Hoping to hear from some of you, best regards, Alan
In the 1850 GA Cherokee County census, there is a John Cook, 80 years old who was born in SC. He is shown living in the same location with a Margaret, age 44 also born in SC. In the next household, there is a William Cook, age 47, born in SC, a Catherine, age 3, born in GA and a Joseph, age 1, also born in GA. I am trying to connect a William to my Great grandfather who was born in GA, One of my William's children was Charles Lawrence Cook, born in Salem, AL in 1866, and lived in Barbour County, AL. Charles married Alberta Malloy, who was also born in Salem, AL. Their children were Charles J, Kathleen and Lennis Preston, my father. If anyone has any connection to this family, please let me know. Thanks for any help.

I am searching a James COOK line which begins in TN, migrates to Fulton County GA, and then comes back to TN into Hamilton County (Chattanooga). I have no idea yet how the line originally got into TN, and have no information on James's parents. I have been trying to search in TN around 1813, and have been looking in DeKalb and Campbell Counties GA. prior to 1853, as well as Fulton County, GA. after 1853. Here's what I have so far. James COOK, b. ca. 1813 in TN, d. between 1852-1860, probably in GA. Married Martha (?) b. 1815 in GA. Children: 1. Gracy M. b. ca. 1837 2. John B. b. ca. 1839 3. William M. b ca. 1842 4. ** David R. b. 1844 (my gGfather) 5. James R. b. ca. 1849 6. Mary E. b. ca. 1852 This family (except for Mary) appears on the 1850 DeKalb County, GA census. They all appear on the 1860 Fulton County, GA census except for James. Martha is listed as a widow, and Mary E. is a new child. I figure James died between 1852 and 1860. Everyone except James was born in GA. The DOB's are estimated from census records except for David R(oss) and family who appear in a family Bible record with the following information: COOK, David Ross, b. 15 Apr 1844 in GA., m. Martha A. Brown 13 Nov 1866, d. (?). They had 5 children: 1. Georgia L, b. 24 Jun 1868, m. Charles A. Vaughn 13 Nov 1889, d. 26 Feb 1908. 2. Lemmah (Lemeh), b. 06 May 1872, d. 19 Jul 1875 3. Edwin Ross, b. 10 Mar 1875, d. 11 Aug 1876 4. D.C., b. 10 Nov 1877, d. 10 Jul 1880 **5. Oscar Earl, b. 07 Aug 1883(5) in Fulton Co., GA, m. Lucy Norma Ziegler 23 Oct 1912 in Chattanooga, TN, d. 08 Sep 1955 in Chattanooga. They had one child, Oscar Earl Cook, Jr. Oscar Earl was my grandfather, Oscar Earl Jr. was my father. David Ross and his family are on the 1880 Fulton County, GA. Census. He does not appear on the 1870 Fulton County census; however, there is a Benjamin R. COOK on that census who is the right age, in the right county, married to a Martha who is the right age, and with a daughter "Georgiana" who is the right age. This census records is suspiciously accurate and may be an enumerator's mistake. It has been suggested that David Ross may have had two first names, e.g. Benjamin David Ross Cook. That idea intrigues me since I had a brother who died at age seven days, and my father and grandfather named him William James Ross Cook. Any information, suggestions, hints, etc. would be most appreciative. Will happily share any and all information I have. I have a web page at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/1128/index.html It ain't fancy -- really not much more than what's above, but I'm working on it. You're welcome to visit. Maybe I can clear this up. When someone asks for others URL's of their Cook sites it's only for 2 reason's #1. To help visitors to their site to be able to find other Cook sites with out having to use search engines. #2. They are not only helping their vistors but helpping the webmaster of the other sites by getting their sites noticed. A far as your information being copyright and not to be used for commerical use, *sigh* we can only hope it doesn't get stolen. The only way to avoid having all your hard work from being taken and sold is not to list ALL the info on site, but suggest if they want more to write you and then you can determine if they are related and you can send the info. I only list the basic information on my family lines, things that are public information as Census and Cemetery records I have listed them in the full content. I read in a magazine resently that there's a new program out that will prevent your website from being copied or printed, but alas I can't remember which computer magazine I read it from (anyone one know I'm interested in purchasing this program). Some how if they do this all they will get is a copyright message and that they need to contact the webmaster for the info. Well I hope I've clear this up, Lisa Cleversey -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Co-List Owner COOK, List Owner BIRD & NYSTEUBE (Steuben Co NY) Heartland/Fields Community Leader -2500-2999 Heartland Genealogy Society & Web Ring Co-Chairman-http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/2416 cleversey's Home Page-http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/5421 cleversey@geocities.com -Icq #9492621
