Hi Cook Cousins... May this be a pleasant day for you :) Happy Valentine's Day Love Ellie
( ) .-.,--^--. _ Good Morning Cook Cousins \\| `---' |// Come on in the coffee pot's on \| / _\___/_ Good Morning Family, A big welcome to our new members. Before long you will know everyone and feel comfortable. We are a unique group of people. We cry together and we laugh together, as we are truly one big happy family. The best part about us is the way we help each other. If you are new to the Internet, or new to genealogy, please do ask questions. Someone in this group has an answer to help you. We are all eager to see who your Cook's were so when you are ready, do post them. Before we get back full swing into posting a lot I want to talk about the matter of Cook List Courtesy. Some months back we ran into the problem of members complaining about to many posts. This was only because members were taking up space posting a gripe against another member. This problem could have destroyed our list so I typed up a rules list as we called it. But I think calling it a Courtesy List sounds better. I see a lot of you still remember :) This list is going to have to be put into action before we get into the new project I spoke of last Sunday. I feel it's very important we start right now today. We have members who are interested only in certain things and don't want to read every post. I have to think about everyone so this is the only way to do it. I will be sending this to the list often as a reminder in case you lose your copy but I can also send you one if you need it. I had illness in my home and did not get to follow through on this but I can do so now. I'm very sorry about this delay. This is our simple and easy rules or styles of posts that will assist us all in getting what we want out of the COOK list: I can't stress enough the importance of the team work it's going to take to make this system work. Rule or Post #1: COOK: Give Short Description.....Definition: COOK genealogy ONLY. Queries and Charts. For the source documentation, post it if you have it, or you may say that they can contact you. Rule or Post #2: HISTORY: Give Short Description.....Definition: Background history of the COOK surname or COOK general history. For the source documentation, post it if you have it, or you may say that they can contact you. Rule or Post #3:CHAT: Give Short Description.....Acknowledgments, greetings, well-wishes, holiday greetings, etc. for members of the list. Rule or Post #4: ANNOUNCEMENTS: Give Short Description.... Home Pages, Web Sites, and any records you want to post. A typical Subject Line might look like: Subject: COOK: My William COOK Oh>Ky Subject: HISTORY: Francis COOK crossing on the Mayflower Subject: CHAT: Merry Christmas Subject: ANNOUNCEMENTS: Cyndi Howell web site. With these four simple rules or posts each of you can now select which ones that you wish to read and which ones you wish to delete. As always, if you have any complaints you can send them to me at: Stephens61@aol.com This system is only as good as those who participate in it so please do the courtesy of keeping your posts designed. The main thing is we want to make our list interesting. I designed this list to be informative so that anyone of our members can receive help finding lost family. This can only be accomplished by us working together as a team. We have been talked about as the best list on the internet and we want to live up to that don't we:) If you haven't been to our Cook Cooke Koch web page, do take a look. This is our web homepage address ... http://members.aol.com/CookCooke Stay sweet and kind just like you are and not change, and I promise not to change also. BG I really enjoyed having coffee with you this morning, it was so nice! ( ) _.-~(~-. (@\`---'/. Ellie (' `._.' `) `-..___..-'

Hello to everyone from Ontario Canada. Once again I will send this query out to anyone who can help. Is there anyone out there that has access to the 1841 census for England. I need to track it down to check out some information in Lincolnshire County and Devon County. I hope someone can come to my rescue as I have hit that red brick wall again. Thank you in advance. I am searching for parents of this family of Cooks/Cork/Cdlk (spelling is hard to read). Uriah Frazier (m) Rejoice Cork and her siblings were Suzanna, Jake (Jacob?), Mat (Mathew?), Julus, and Sally Marion. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who may know something of this family. Thanks, Elsie

Dear Cousins, I have been working on this line for some time and recently found information I had lost sometime ago. This connects to the family of VIRGIL Y. COOKE who he states in a letter that his father was William Cook, mother Pernecia Dodds (dau. of Capt. John Craig Dodds) and grandfather John Cook. That he was born in Graves Co., KY. His parents moved there from Caldwell Co., KY. From a Obituary Re: Virgil Young Cook (From Batesville, Ark Record, March 16, 1922): Col. Cook was born in Boydsville, Graves Co., KY on Nov. 14, 1848. He married second to Mrs. Sarah Wyse April 28, 1920 in New Orleans, La. This is what I have put together. Can you help me further? I previously sent the following message regarding Penelope COOK. Since that entry I have found new information. It appears that Penelope's parents are Malcom (b. abt. Jun 1929) and Mason (b. abt. Apr 1840) COOK of Columbus County, North Carolina. Malcom's parents are Yancy or Young B. (b. abt. 1802) and Sarah (b. abt. 1811) COOK also of Columbus County. If this rings a bell with anyone, please let me know. Dear COOK Cousins: I need your help. My dilemma - I am unable to find my gggrandfather's place of birth or his parents. My ggGrandfather Horatio Ross COOK, MD, a.k.a. H.R. COOK, MD, b. Mar. 20, 1818 and d. Feb. 10, 1886 according to the grave marker. He graduated from the Georgia Medical College (Augusta) in 1841 and practiced medicine in Beech Island, SC across the river from Augusta, GA until his death. I have the following: The Census Reports of 1850, 1860, 1870 record New Jersey as place of birth. The college records were destroyed during the Civil War but his graduation is recorded. I have public records noting him as a Planter (Farmer), Civic Organizations and a bill dated 1885 for medical services rendered. My search has started in reviewing medical journals of listed physicians during 1850 - 1886 and have reviewed: Medical Obituaries: American Physicians' Biographical Notices in Selected Journals before 1907 A History of Medicine in SC 1825 - 1900 I ask that you remember Horatio Ross COOK, MD, the next time you are in your Reference Department. Like many of our cousins, the local library references have been exhausted. For me, the Archives and History in Columbia, SC is 600 miles away. I welcome any suggestion(s) you may have. Believe me, I am at the wall. Thanks, Edward A. Cook
Hi! I am new to this list and thought I'd just jump in. I am searching for information about Mary Cook, my greatgrandmother. She may have been born in Delaware. She married Harry Stevens of Marcus Hook, Delaware County in the early 1900s and had several children. One of those children was Mary Stevens, my grandmother, who married Roland Faries and lived their entire married lives in Marcus Hook. If you have any information or suggestions, I would love to hear from you. I'll gladly share any information I have. Thanks! Gail Faries

>From Helen Cook Austin AustinART@aol.com I wish one of you knew something about COOK families who lived in Natrona, or Tarentum or Pittsburgh, PA from about 1850-1920. I am having a hard time trying to find my ggrandfather who was a George or Charles COOK b GERMANY, possibly Bavaria about 1832. He married in PA about 1860 and d (or left Pgh) after 1875, but before 1900 probably in Allegheny Co, PA. His children were: 1) CHARLES ALEXANDER COOK b 19 Jan 1864 Natrona, Allegheny,PA who m 27 Jun 1888 Tarentum Meth-Epis.Ch to Mary Ellen TRENARY of that city. He died 6 May 1952 in Homewood, Pittsburgh, PA and was bur in Prospect Cem., Tarentum by his wife and son James COOK. 2) CAROLINE "CARRIE" COOK b Dec 1861 PA,. She died aft 1920 in PA. She Married Charles J. Appleby of Tarentum and lived on 9th St. Their son Clarence Appleby was a Slive Merchant, and their daughters were all elementary school teachers at Tarentum Elementary School on 9th St. 3) ANNIE E. COOK b 2 Aug 1870 mar abt 1890 to Edward ROBERTS, This family not found. There may be other children, Albert, George, and Amelia. U.S. Census of 1880 Allegheny Co, PA, Harrison Twp, Natrona, MF Roll 1089, P8, Dwelling 68, Fam 73, Cook, George, W, M, 48, head, married, Carpenter, b Bayern, father and mother b Bayern; wife Barbra 49, b Baden father and mother b Baden; son George 20, laboring, b PA; dau Caroline 18, keeping house, b PA; son CHARLES 16, b 1864 laborer, attended school 8 mo, b PA; dau, Amelia 18, PA; son Albert 12; Elizabeth Kallenbaugh, age 78, grandmother, widowed, b 1802 Baden. I THINK this is the right family. But there is another family in the vicinity that also has a son CHARLES age 16. However the head of household is CHARLES so I do not think this is the family. Also, this family does not have a CARRIE the right age. I know the location is correct. Legend said that my Charles Alexander was raised by a German stepmother after his natural mother died. I do not have any way of knowing if this Barbra Kallenbaugh dau of Elizabeth is the stepmother or natural mother. I would appreciate help from PA, COOK researchers. Thanks
>Did you ever wonder how Grandma made her lye soap? YUCK! Did you ever have to USE lye soap? My grandmother and mother made it when I was young (along with lots of other "stuff" that had strange odors coming from it or looked suspiciously "alive"). Those rosey cheeks that you think of on small children of old weren't from healthy living - it was from a good scrub in the tub with lye soap! :-) Concerning my Joshua Cook: I am still in need of information on this ancestor. He was b. 1805 in GA; m. 1827 in MS to Susanna (Unknown). They are listed in the 1850 Census in Holmes Co., MS, along with their eight children. Any cousins out there?
