The search goes on. George Cook was an Indian trader. His wife was Olithi, a Shawnee, a Maukajay, from just north of the Ohio River. In 1774 my great great grandfather, Conrad Cook, was born. In 1790, I believe that George and Olithi were living near other Cook relatives in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. I also believe that they had other children in addition to Conrad. In the early 1800's, Conrad married and moved to the area of his mother's birth in Adams County, Ohio as did his father, George. I am searching for Cooks (Kochs - German) who have a story of an Indian ancestor in their family history. Because of George's and Olithi's trading trips, Conrad and his siblings were raised to be equally at home with both whites and Indians. When the Indians were driven from Ohio, Conrad chose to remain and be white. His siblings might have migrated to a southern state or perhaps to one in the north. Some might have chosen to be Indian. Can anyone out there relate to this story? Jesse W. Cook -- Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, Today is a Gift; That's why we call it The Present.

( ) .-.,--^--. _ Good Morning Cook Cousins \\| `---' |// Come on in the coffee pot's on \| / _\___/_ Good Morning Family, A big welcome to our new members. Before long you will know everyone and feel comfortable. We are a unique group of people. We cry together and we laugh together, as we are truly one big happy family. The best part about us is the way we help each other. If you are new to the Internet, or new to genealogy, please do ask questions. Someone in this group has an answer to help you. We are all eager to see who your Cook's were so when you are ready, do post them. Our subject lines are looking much better! It's really for our benefit that we learn to fill them out so members can tell exactly what's inside. We have members who will not read a query if it doesn't give information. So I wonder how many of you aren't getting your query read? Maybe you haven't sent one in a long time because you didn't get any replies. I hope you can think up a good subject line and resend it. The main thing is that we want to catch someone's eye! With the bingo's we have had on this list, I know someone is doing something right. Let's practice :) I was so proud of the way we conducted ourselves last week! We did need to know about the happy99 e-mail. I hope next time we can get the subject line in it's right place. If we do this...no one can complain about the extra posts that are being sent in. Why? because no one HAS to read Chat. Read below the description of Chat and you will get a better idea of what I am trying to accomplish for our list. Chat is just what it is...chat nothing more. If we learn to stay within our guidelines, we are safe. No one has the right to say anything back to you because you filled the subject line out with CHAT first. Let's really start using the Courtesy Rules so we are always in the right. Rule or Post #3:CHAT: Give Short Description.....Acknowledgments, greetings, well-wishes, holiday greetings, chit chat for members of the list. This includes responding to a post for example like the happy99 virus. I felt like this was very necessary to talk about this subject this morning Need to make your day happy? I found a good site you might want to go see... Annnie's Email Encourager Page She's a wonderful person! If you haven't been to our Cook Cooke Koch web page, do take a look. Hi, A few days ago, there was a lot of discussion on this list about the Happy99.exe worm. Some of it wasn't pleasant, I know, but I read it all and yesterday, what I learned here saved us! The worm was came to us from another mailing list last night. This morning it came to us two more times from the same list. This message is a thank you to all who participated in the discussion on Happy 99. Patsy Seay

Hi Barbara, Enjoyed the "snipit" from Mark William's book you posted. I think we all owe some debt of gratitude to the "industry" of the early settlers. I, especially, since I'm descended from two of the three fellows mentioned. Also interesting that we were exhibiting "envy" of wealth and prosperity, even in the 1600s'. Some things never change.
