Hello Cookies! >>>...I had come to the conclusion there was no Cooks in the So... :-) Yes, we're here! I know it can be frustrating, though. I'm still looking for Joshua Cook b. 1805 in GA and m. 1827 in MS or KY (yeah...looking for that, too). >>>...The name Wm. is just not a run of the mill name for so many of the Cook-L members I have two Williams listed, though neither yours (sorry). There is the posibility that the two are one in the same. In case anyone else is looking, I have: 1) WILLIAM A. COOKS PVT- B- POW at Camp Morton, IN 22 Jun 1863 2) WILLIAM COOK b. 1846 in Holmes Co. MS, son of Joshua and Susanna Cook Good luck! Jo-Ann Stephens
Hi Cook Cousins: My gggrandfather's had a first name of Horatio and a middle name of Ross and a surname of COOK. He was b. 1818, d. 1886 according to his grave marker. Place of birth unknown and parent's names unknown. Census reports record New Jersey and other personal news stories say Maryland and Pennsylvania. He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1841 and practiced medicine in Beech Island, SC across the Savannah River from Augusta, Ga. If your tree has a Horatio or H.R. Cook, please send me a note. I thank you Cousins. AUGCOOK

Hello, I also have a William Cook although I know very little about him. He was born around 1775 and lived in Vermont. Married a women named Rachel. This is my 4th great grandfather. He had a daughter Laura H. Cook who was born in 1808 in Vermont. She married Silas R. Burdick and moved to Wayne Co. NY. She possibly had brothers George, Solomon, and Washington or at least those Cooks lived nearby in Wayne Co. and also nearby when Laura and her family moved to Kalamazoo Co MI in 1854. I am at a loss on how to locate any other information on this man. What I do know is from Laura's death record. Thanks Sandy
Thanks so much to everyone who sent me the addy i needed to the LDS site Evelyn
I am still looking for info on COOK, William (Willie) . He was my grandfather Memphis Ray. Born Cherokee Co.Topton, NC around 1895. Mother: Catherine Elizabeth Rogers Cook. Question about fathers name maybe William Henry Cook. This family was known as Black Dutch and worked for the Railroad. One sister Dora Bell Cook Ray. They were from the GA, NC, TN area. Murphy, NC -- Copper Hill, TN -- Blue Ridge, GA. He relocated to WV taking a new identity of William Memphis Ray. This was around 1918 or 1919 because in 1920 he married my grandmother in WV with his new name. He may left a family behind. Any information deeply appreciated Thank you Jerry Nan JRNan1@aol.com
I have updated the page again with a few more pages - thanks to all who have been providing great information. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/4375/cookmain.html
Hello fellow Cook researchers. I have been trying to trace my Wm. Cook for sometime now without success and I had come to the conclusion there was no Cooks in the So. My Wm's Cristian name was Albert Wm/Wm. Albert Cook c1853 Ohio. Made his way into Ark. was there in 1880 and wed Mary Virginia Dodgen. After reading all the Cook names that has been posted, this may be the first one so far with a Wm. in the family outside, of course , the Albert Wm. that a Jesse Cook, member of the Cook-L, wrote me about. The name Wm. is just not a run of the mill name for so many of the Cook-L members I would be interested to read if you have an Albert mixed in with your Wm Cooks. Martha WHAT WE THINK WE KNOW: William Cook I was probably born about 1700 and married Anne Griffin (Griffith). Only known child was William Cook II, born about 1725 and died about 1784 Franklin Co., KY. He married Margaret Jones about 1750 in VA. There is speculation that William Cook I may have had a brother John Cook. William Cook I may have been living in Pittsylvania Co., VA in 1770 when William Cook II was involved in a lawsuit there. We know that William Cook II started his married life in Lunenburg Co., VA in 1750, lived in Halifax Co., 1752-1767, lived in Pittsylvania Co., 1767-1777, lived in Franklin Co., 1777-1784 and died in Franklin Co., KY about 1784. An account written on an old Bible fly leaf with the printed title, "Family Record", subtitled, "Miscellaneous", appears in a copy of Hitchcock's New and Complete Analysis of the Holy Bible [Roswell Dwight Hitchcock, 1872] which apparently belonged to Isaac and Nancy Sacra Cook and/or one of their children. Isaac Cook is the second son of William Cook III. The first page of the Bible narrative reads: "William Cook, I, emigrated from England in the beginning of the Seventeenth Century . He married a Miss Griffin and reared one son William, II. He married Margaret Jones about 1750, and reared 5 sons and 3 daughters. William III Son William II and Margaret Cook, married Catharine Croucher about A.D. 1795, and reared Jesse II, Rachel II, Isaac I, Nancy I, Hosea II, William III, Abraham II Rhoda I, and Seth the II." The name Margaret appears to have been written over the word Miss. The statement "beginning of the Seventeenth Century" obviously is an error intending to mean the beginning of the Eighteenth Century or 1700. The names Griffin and Griffith appear to be interchangeable in early public records. Catharine Croucher would be Keturah Catherine Crutcher. WHAT WE DON'T KNOW: If William Cook I emigrated from England as stated on the fly leaf of an old bible, we do not know the ship that he traveled on or port of entry. We do not know his or his wife's ancestors. We are not sure of the county where he lived in VA. A tradition heard in one branch of the Cook family has William Cook I emigrating to America from Northern Ireland to escape political harassment. This could be true, but it is likely and logical that he was a native of VA. SEARCH: International Genealogical Index (IGI) - William Cook I does not appear in the database. I am searching for information about J.W. Cook and Willis Cook who were in the 1840 Federal Census for Weakley County, Tennessee. I am trying to find out if the above J.W. Cook is the same one who lived in Jackson County, Lalbama in 1850 and in 1860. If it is the same, then I want to know if he and WIllis Cook are related. Thanks, Gene Key Dallas, Tx.
Hi List, I just received a pedigree sheet on my Powell family and included was a James Lewis who married Henrietta Cook. Their son, Alfred Lewis was born June 8, 1830 in Wilkes Co, NC. If anyone is connected to this family, I can give you descendants as Alfred married a cousin of my g-grandfather, George W. Powell. Linda Garrett

the 2 census pages have been updated http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/4375/cookgraves.html http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/4375/cook1850.html Remember we only do the dual sort for the Jackson Purchase, KY counties. Our census information is growing - we'd love to have more help with the KY and TN Cook Census information..
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/4375/cookdeathinformation.html has been redesigned - I hope that it is quicker to load - I have more information to add but would ask that if you find an ancestor on this page - let me know and we can put you near them on the page - or if they connect to a family in the census pages - we can note that .. I'd like to be able to sort of cross reference these Cook ancestors. Pat
Does anyone have information on Eve Cook daughter of Adam Koch/Cook and Anna Drucker. I think she married Sam Dormire Thanks Phyllis

Adam Cook and his son Michael Cook settled in Ashe Co., NC. The area later became Watauga Co. NC. Michael was born in 1773 and married Ann Elizabeth Arney. My mother, Virgie Cook Burgess, had made a connection to the Adam Koch who arrived on the Duke of Bedford in Philadelphia in 1751. I have been unable to find documentation in her papers and would like to hear from anyone who may be able to point to the right direction. She corresponded with a lot of Cooks and I hope one of them will read this letter. Thanks, Melba
Hi Family, I received the notice yesterday that our chat room is set up and ready for us. Let's all get together and talk about our Cook's. :) It's every Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Central Time. Lisa and I tested it last night and while we were there a lady came into the room from Wales. It was unique that each of us was from a different place and yet be in a room and talk all at the same time. Lisa in Florida, Gentech in Wales and me in Oklahoma. We were all three on different servers. I was given the instructions below to follow to be able to get into our chat room or any other genealogy chat room on IRC. So that you can test it to see if you can find the right place, I will buzz in and out all the rest of the day and evening. Ellie IRC is Internet Relay Chat = It is a system of talking to people in "real time". You type to each other on a screen where everybody that is on the channel can see all the stuff typed.. mIRC is an IRC browser just like Netscape or Explorer, only it is for "chatting". IRC.ROOTSWEB.COM is the name of the server where the IIGS (International Internet Genealogy Society) chats. The port number is part of the server info. All channels start with a # sign. The channel you want is #cooksearchers. Here is total info: In order to get to chat you need to first have an IRC browser. You can obtain a good one from http://www.mirc.com (its shareware). After installing it, when you access it you will come up with a window showing irc servers. You need to add the server, irc.rootsweb.com, on port 6667. Then click on "CONNECT TO SERVER". A new window will open and you'll have to wait about a minute for the connection to take. After you get the welcome message (that you're connected), type "/list" (without the quotes) and hit enter. You will be presented with a new window showing all the open channels on that server. Double click on #cooksearchers and you'll be joining it. If you select #genealogy channel, you'll get some chat help from all the friendly people there. If no channels are showing, it means none are open - try again later. Or, if you're opening the channel, just type /open #cooksearchers and you'll have started the channel. For a schedule of all the different iigs irc meetings, check out: http://www.iigs.org/cgi/ircthemes/ircthemes You'll be suprised at the variety of chats available to you. John DeKleine.
