    1. [COOK-L] MOSES, Gaither A.-b.abt 1890 Burke Co NC-to David MOSES & Frances HELMS MOSES
    2. Can ANYONE out there PLEASE help me and my family. I apologize for the lengthiness but will provide as many details as I can. We are so desperate to find something on grandfather - it is as if he has vanished into thin air or never existed - except I know he did - I have a marriage certificate and birth certificate to prove it! I am looking for death/burial location of Gaither A. MOSES or any information leading to his grave site. Also would like to find any living relatives of Gaither A. MOSES - OR - any living relatives of Bessie MOSES COOK and Bynum COOK because they could help me find Grandfather's grave. Pertinent details are: * Gaither A. MOSES, born about 1890 in Burke County, NC Our family does NOT know what the "A" - middle initial stands for. * Parents: David MOSES and Francis HELMS-MOSES(Surname also has been listed as MOSSES) married January 17, 1877 in Burke County, NC * Believed to have three sisters, Lola and Ruth MOSES and Moice J. MOSSES and a brother named Joe (Joseph) MOSES who lived in Gastonia, NC * Gaither had a daughter named Cansadie (not sure of spelling - it might have stood for "Candace Sadie MOSES" ) and also had twins * Lived in the High Shoals or SOUTHSIDE area, NC in a house next to his father's house for about eight or nine years around 1928; around that time was when he separated from his first wife * Gaither was prone to have severe migraine headaches and supposedly visited a doctor in Maiden, NC for hair loss (bald spot) * Married Mary Lee MOSES (different MOSES family line) on Nov. 12, 1935 - Lincoln County, Lincolnton NC * Believed to have relocated to Bessemer City or Kings Mtn. NC around 1936 * Gaither was said to have worked in Shelby, NC in a cotton mill (name unknown) about 1937-40 * Was also said to have lived in Tennessee (area ??) for about three years around 1931 to 1934 * Gaither had relatives in upstate SC (possibly in Simpsonville or Abbeville) and his sister Lola MOSES owned a farm in South Carolina * Gaither was very, very close friends with a Bessie MOSES COOK and Bynum COOK of Bessemer City, NC and possibly lived with them for awhile. Bessie MOSES COOK had a son named Lawrence Dean JAMES and another son named Allen Gettis JAMES and she had a daughter named Lillie Mae COOK who married, divorced, then remarried a man named June COOK (Bynum Cook's brother) PLEASE - if you can find ANY information on any of the above MOSES -or- COOK families, PLEASE - PLEASE e-mail Cmcamidge@aol.com - OR - e-mail Wmoses@excite.com And just so I don't waste anyone's time), I have already tried * Soc.Sec.Death Index * Online Vital Records * WD FLOYD cemetery site * Ancestry.com (not member/ also as member) * GenForum.com * KnowX.com - paid search * Have written Soc.Sec. * Have written Bureau of Census * Have searched RootsWeb * Have been to Register of Deeds various counties * Have been to libraries * Some have searched FTM CD's for me * Written NC & SC Vital Records and Archives - they have no record of his death but say it is entirely possible "fell through the cracks" and did not get reported at the state level like it should have - perhaps he died in hosp/nursing home w/no relatives (I hope not! I hope someone was there!) I ALREADY FOUND: GAITHER, Moses - died Monroe, NC THIS ONE IS NOT MY GRANDFATHER I ALREADY FOUND: MOSES, JR., Clyde Gaither - HAVE ALREADY CHECKED THIS ONE - NOT MY GRANDFATHER! 1. [COOK-L] Are these old photos your ancestors
    2. Anita Gauld
    3. Hi all. Greetings from Fife Lake, Michigan. I was in a second hand store in Traverse City, Michigan this weekend and happened upon two very old photos mountd on cardboard maybe around the early 1900's. Purchased them and am looking for their owners. I am posting the information written on the back in hopes that maybe someone may recognize their names and let me know. I will be glad to snail mail them to their rightful owners. The photos are in very good condition. Would also appreciate any help in passing this info on. Maybe we can be successful and sending these memories to their loved ones. Photo#1....... was taken at the Michigan Photo Company and is of two very young girls who appear to be under 5 years of age. The handwritten inscription on the back reads: Orphas Lessley Dawson January 24, 1894 and died July 1st 1957 Ora Wesley Dawson born December 15th 1894. Photo#2....... was taken at B.C. Mapes, (extra finish) photographer and is of an elderly woman inscription on back reads: Mary Lyle Calbetzer wife of Daniel Calbetzer. ~~~~~~~~~ I am sending this info out to as many lists as I can because I know if someone found a treasure such as this I would be very excited to be notified. :) Anita ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Anita (nee: Merlo) Gauld Anita_Gauld@Hotmail.Com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Have over 20,000 individuals in my database. 1. [COOK-L] Announcements: Cook List Chat Room
    2. Hi Family, Come chat with your fellow Cook list cousins! It's every Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.Central Time. It matters not what server you are on or where you live in the world. Instructions are below to show you how to get into our chat room or any other genealogy chat room on IRC. Ellie IRC is Internet Relay Chat = It is a system of talking to people in "real time". You type to each other on a screen where everybody that is on the channel can see all the stuff typed.. mIRC is an IRC browser just like Netscape or Explorer, only it is for "chatting". IRC.ROOTSWEB.COM is the name of the server where the IIGS (International Internet Genealogy Society) chats. The port number is part of the server info. All channels start with a # sign. The channel you want is #cooksearchers. Here is total info: In order to get to chat you need to first have an IRC browser. You can obtain a good one from http://www.mirc.com (its shareware). After installing it, when you access it you will come up with a window showing irc servers. You need to add the server, irc.rootsweb.com, on port 6667. Then click on "CONNECT TO SERVER". A new window will open and you'll have to wait about a minute for the connection to take. After you get the welcome message (that you're connected), type "/list" (without the quotes) and hit enter. You will be presented with a new window showing all the open channels on that server. Double click on #cooksearchers and you'll be joining it. If you select #genealogy channel, you'll get some chat help from all the friendly people there. If no channels are showing, it means none are open - try again later. Or, if you're opening the channel, just type /open #cooksearchers and you'll have started the channel. For a schedule of all the different iigs irc meetings, check out: http://www.iigs.org/cgi/ircthemes/ircthemes You'll be suprised at the variety of chats available to you.

    3. With everyone adding their William I thought I would get mine in there too. Mine is my gggrandfather and he was born in or near Horncastle England onFebruary 27, 1832. He came to Greenbank Ontario in 1856 and settled in Haliburton County in Ontario Canada. He married and had 5 children one being my ggrandfather. I recently had a bingo because I knew that he had family that remained in England and wanted to find them. I have and now know his father and mother's name and those of his brothers and sisters in the family. I was just about to give up on my Cook and then this bingo came in. It just goes to show you that sometimes things do happen when you least expect them too. This was in Bedford Co., PA. Children also listed on deed: Ezekiel married to Elizabeth Leader John William married to Mary Stover Elizabeth married to George Long Thomas married to Eliza ? I have a DOD on William as 1805, but don't know if that's accurate. I come down through Ezekiel and Elizabeth and have good info from there down. Linda Garrett

    1. Re: [COOK-L] more William Cook information
    2. This seems to be an appropriate time to add my William Cook (my great grandfather) to the current discussion-- and he is my brick wall. About all I know of him has come from family tradition. William James Cook, born in Georgia abt 1810, went to Marion Co Mississippi at an early age. A cousin said he ran away from home in GA at about age 12---went to relatives in Alabama--was sent to other relatives in south MS because of an epidemic in AL. I have found him on 1850,1860 and 1870 Marion Co MS census with his wife, Sarah Temple, both born in GA, and their children, Sarah Ann, Susan, Marion, George S., Salina, Thomas Jefferson, William James, and John Ira. His first wife was Anna Pucket, mar. in Lawrence Co MS in 1825. They had one son, William, Jr., who was listed on the 1850 census, age 21. Does anyone have any information about my William James Cook or any of his children, especially first son, Wm. Cook, Jr. or his descendants? There were several Cooks (Henry, Lewis, etc.) in south MS in the early 1800s, who could have been his relatives. Haven't been able to sort them out. Thanks for any help you can give me. Martha Callaway << >>>>.I had come to the conclusion there was no Cooks in the So... :-) Yes, we're here! I know it can be frustrating, though. I'm still looking for Joshua Cook b. 1805 in GA and m. 1827 in MS or KY (yeah...looking for that, too). >>>...The name Wm. is just not a run of the mill name for so many of the Cook-L members I have two Williams listed, though neither yours (sorry). There is the posibility that the two are one in the same. In case anyone else is looking, I have: 1) WILLIAM A. COOKS PVT- B- POW at Camp Morton, IN 22 Jun 1863 2) WILLIAM COOK b. 1846 in Holmes Co. MS, son of Joshua and Susanna Cook Good luck! Jo-Ann Stephens >>
