I have received additional information about my Robert R/A. Cook, of Carroll County, Ga. According to family legend, his father never came out of the Carolina's. It is believed that his father's name was either Elisha or Elijah Cook. It is also legend that he may have changed his name from Cooper to Cook. This Cook family had close ties with the Rooks family. The area of the Carolina's where it is believed that this line of Cooks came from is what is now Oconee County, South Carolina. If anyone has any records showing a connection of Robert R/A Cook to a Elisha or Elijah Cook in the late 1700's or early 1800's it might be just the link I'm looking for. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks. Johnny Cook jcook@mail.tds.net

Hi Paul...I am intrigued by your post. I am looking to find out if a gg-uncle, Charles COOK/COOKE, b. ca 1853 ON, CANADA, lived to have a family. His birth family were Wesleyan Methodists. We know his oldest sister Margaret J. was b. in Marysburgh, PE co., and his two younger sisters Eliza Lillie & Rosetta were born Hamilton. He had another sister, Alice b. ca 1850. (At Lillie's 2nd marriage in 1886, one of the witnesses was a Mrs. Wilson.) I have these COOKEs traced back to Thomas Sr from England who came to Canada as a soldier in 1776 & Jr. b. Kingston, Frontenac co., ON. They were Anglican. This is long shot but will be interested in who you find to be Allen COOKE's parents. Do you belong to any Canadian lists yet? If not, I would be happy to forward your query to EONTGEN for eastern Ontario genealogies. BTW, do you have any other info on Allen and his wife Eliza Wilson? I found this on the Oneida Co. list. Please replay to Nancy not me. I would like to obtain a marriage record for Asahel Cook and Mary Lothrop, who were married in the First Congregational Church, Westmoreland on 28 Feb 1797. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I am also interested in the history of this church, and whether it still is in existence. As always, I would love to hear from anyone researching these Cooks and Lothrops! Well - the pages have been updated again! I have lots of great material to work from and in another week or so, there should be more great things to view. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/4375/cookmain.html Our main area is the western part of KY with other areas of KY and TN being added all the time. We have a large amount of census data for KY and TN - we are always looking for more census data all the time. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/4375/cookcens.html - happy surfing. Pat
I'm a new subscriber to this discussion list and I'm just about as new to this geneology stuff. I didn't even know the interest was in me until my daughter needed to trace her ancestors as a school project. Now I can't seem to put it aside. My father, Percy Charles COOKE died when I was young (January, 1964). It is his ancestry that I'm particularly interested in. He was born on Feb 17, 1917 in Gananoque, (Leeds County), Ontario, CA. His father was Allen COOKE, mother was Eliza WILSON. Percy COOKE moved to the states in 1952 (Rochester, New York). He married June Mary OSWOLD in February, 1956. I (Paul Lewis COOKE) was born on October 4, 1957. This is all I have and don't know where to go next (without traveling to Canada). Any help would be appreciated.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX FCC INTERNET TAX A HOAX There is NO bill currently before Congress calling for a tax on internet access! Over the past few months, a rumor has circulated through our nation's email system which states that in the next few weeks the Congress is going to vote to allow phone companies to charge long distance fees on a per minute basis to their customers who use the internet. I can assure you that no such bill exists and I have strong concerns with any attempt to tax individuals for internet usage. Please be assured that, if any bill to place taxes on the internet is introduced, I will express your reservations to my colleagues on the Commerce Committee which has jurisdiction over this matter. To further clarify how this myth was spread, Please click on this link to a fact sheet on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) web site, the federal agency with jurisdiction over the internet. In simple terms, if a customer of one phone company contacts a customer of another phone company, the first company must compensate the second for completing the call. Currently phone companies are fighting to see if Internet Service Providers (ISPs), or the means by which customers are connected to the internet, are subject to the same compensation. The myth of an internet tax resulted from this dispute. Again, let me convey to you in the strongest way possible, There is NO bill currently before Congress calling for a tax on internet access! Another Cookie Reminder: There are 753 COOK marriages listed (and I didn't even check on COOKE, COOKS, etc.). The URL is: http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/www/indiana/genealogy/mirr.html By the way, I forgot to list the URL for the OH Death Index in the previous reminder: http://dbs.ohiohistory.org/dindex/search.cfm Jo-Ann
Cookie Reminder: For those of you searching in OH, there is an online death index for the entire state for years 1913-1937. There are over 500 COOK names listed in the 1913-1917 period alone! :-) Just type in the name (or just the surname) and a county if you know it (or choose "all counties"). The years are divided into sections so you can check each time period for your particular COOK. Jo-Ann Stephens

I completely agree with Bobbalee, there are so many Wms. I didn't realize this until they started posting. I think there are enough descendants of Wm. Cook, that we could start a list with the name of Wm. I haven't found my Albert Wm. Cook c1853, Ohio either Marty C. All those William Cooks that have been posted - and not one of them is mine. Hi Group, Boy, did you all miss some fun! Where was everybody for the Cook Chat??? We missed you. Ellie and I, and only 4 others were in the IRC chat yesterday afternoon. We had a Cook researcher from Australia, and another from Nova Scotia there. It was fun talking about where our ancestors came from, and who our brick walls were. We found out a little about each other, like how long we had been interested in genealogy, where we lived, etc... I know this was a sunny, spring weekend for many of you guys, but hopefully we can get more of us to participate next week. The instructions for setting up the IRC from Ellie, were easy to follow, I had no problems connecting to it, even though I had never done this before. If any of you have problems finding the shareware program mIRC, I have it in zip format, and I can send it to you via email. Just let me know. Thanks Ellie for taking the trouble to set this up! I had a great time, and look forward to chatting with more Cooksearchers next week :-) Roberta Cooke Schmidt tps914@aol.com Cooke Connections http://www.geocities.com/heartland/hills/4665/
I am a descendant of George Cook who was born in Burford, Oxfordshire, England 28 March 1840 or 1841. He came to New Zealand on the Chile in 1872 along with His brother William. That is all the information I have. Can anyone give me more information on him and who his parents were. Victor. ellen@bitworks.co.nz
