    1. [COOK-L] Re: COOK-D Digest V01 #160
    2. Seeking the recent posts on NC COOKS, reminded me that I need to re-post my COOKs (actually only one Cook so far!). I'm searching for my ggrandmother's family. Her name was Sarah Matilda COOK; she was known as "Tilda". According to census records, she was born in Georgia; her father was born in NC and her mother in SC (names are unknown). She married S. R. ("Pete") BROOM about 1872 in Chattooga Co., GA. When my grandmother was born, the family was living in Walker Co., GA (about 1885). Pete and Tilda's children were: Wm. A., Henry T., Joseph M., Alma, and Warren Frank BROOM. Tilda died in 1928 in Floyd County, Georgia and is buried at Floyd Springs Bapt. Church cemetery. It's rumored there may have been some native American ancestry in this line. Any help with this line of COOKs would be greatly appreciated! Linda ([email protected])

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Hollis and Dorothy Cook To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, June 15, 2000 1:17 PM Subject: Nathan Cook at NC Some of my ancestors: I would deeply appreciate any information that you would share with me to assist me in learning about others of my ancestors. If you are doing family research on any of my list, contact me and I will share with you any information that I have. My GGGrandpa, Nathan Cook, was born somewhere in NC in 1790 and died in Parrott (Terrell County) GA in 1884. His wife, my GGGrandma, Alletha Cook, was born in NC in 1796 and died in Parrot (Terrell County) GA. I do not know where they are buried. Randolph, Webster, Terrell, Miller and Clay counties in GA are primary counties in GA where my ancestors lived. Towns where they lived are: Dawson, Herod, Parrott, Americus, Cuthbert, Blakley, Colquitt and Donaldsonville, GA. In Alabama John Thomas Cook and Alice Udora Cook lived in Winston County and in the towns of Houston and Arley. Richard J. Cook and Martha Eugenia Bush Cook lived in Houston County AL and in the town of Ashland. They are now buried about one mile east of Noma, FL off Highway 2. Perhaps there are some of the descendants of Seaborn Hay, Elizabeth Brunson, Owen Hamey, Zilpha Ann Summerlin, Charlotte Hooten, M.L.F. Comer, Jane F. Stokes, Charles W. Rice, Silas Scott, John W. McClendon, Burrell Roberts, Alice Udora Hillman, Francis R. Darren, Emma Vanover or Martha Eugenia Bush, who are doing some ancestral research with some information on some that I have named. (I also put out an inquiry from my other web address about his father's family) If you are the person who made the Montana inquiry, please send me an e-mail at either [email protected] or [email protected] so that I can forward that information along. 2. Lisa Martin
    3. Please everyone if you do not have a Virus Protection program, then Get one NOW please. The amount of Virus going around are higher then I've seen in a long time. Also the Viruses are getting smarter I've watched while my husband (computer tech) clean 4 computers in the last couple of weeks with viruses, the viruses in 2 rewrote things in the bio's making it harder to clean one he had to wipe the whole hard drive clean, one more had a Trojan that rewrote itself everytime it was booted. So the average person will not be able to rid their computer of the viruses and will have to take it to a professional to clean it. The best thing to do is don't open any attachments and invest in a Virus program it's well worth the money and keep it active at all times. Mary, mother of Richard, was apparently the Mary SMITH that married William RING in 1821 at the Brunswick Street Methodist Church in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Can any one identify the Joseph COOK mentioned above (i.e. the father of Richard). 3. I'm not convinced (for lack of documentation) that Jarrett W. Cook was the son of this couple. Jarrett W. Cook was MOST LIKELY the son of John Cook and Elizabeth (Walthall) Cousins (m. 1777-8 in Lunenburg Co., VA, per Lunenburg Co. marriage records) ... and the "Jarrett W." was for Jarrett Walthall Cook who is listed in the will of his grandfather, Garrard (AKA Jarrett) Walthall, father of Elizabeth (per Walthall Family genealogy book by M. E. Walthall, 1963). Jarrett W(althall) Cook married Elizabeth Carter (d/o Richard and Frances (??) Carter) in 1/1800 in Halifax Co., VA (per Halifax Co., VA marriage records), where this Cook family had moved. There are land records in Lunenburg and Halifax Co., VA to show property exchange with the Peter Cousin family (who were 1/2 siblings with Jarrett Walthall Cook). Jarrett Walthall & Elizabeth (Carter) Cook moved with most of their family to Green Co., KY early in 1800s ... perhaps as early as 1805, but for sure by 1830s.... They had 2 married daughters (Ann & Julia) who stayed in VA with their husbands, while the remainder moved (gradually) to Green Co., KY. The Green Co. court records give extensive proof of their presence in the county and also where they came from in VA. I have never seen a document actually relating Benjamin Cook to Jarrett W. Cook. The Green Co., KY records that I've found do not show proof that Jarrett W.'s father was Benjamin Cook. I'm pretty sure they were related, but I've seen No Documentation to prove that they're father and son. If anyone has hard-copy information about them being father/son, boy! I'd sure love to see it! I've been working on this family daily for well over a year :O)! Thanks in advance for any assistance.
