The article below is from the Higbee, Randolph County, MO news from May 1919. Does anyone know who these COOKs are? I have not heard of the name Wash Cook and wonder if it could be shortened from Washington Cook? Friday, 9 May 1919, Vol 33. No 3--John Cook, son of Mrs. Wash Cook, who recently landed from overseas, came home Saturday to remain. He saw real service at the front and was severely wounded and spent several months in a hospital. He is entirely recovered, we are pleased to state. I would like to know who Mrs. Wash Cook is and who this John is if anyone can help me. Thanks Jere

Hello All, My name is Jackie Blackman and I am new to this list. My COOK ancestors came from Burford in Oxford and I am keen to find out more about them. My gg Grandfather was James COOK who was baptised in 1852. He was married to Sarah SMITH in 1887. His father was also James COOK and was born in 1819, he married Mary Ann STRINGER in 1844. His father was Thomas COOK (bap 1785) who was married to Letitia ROGERS. Thomas' father was George COOK. Rather than list all of George's ancestors, I will just say that the first COOK from Burford in my tree is Robert COOK, bap 1660. Robert's father is John COOK, but I have no information about him at all. If you have any connections to this family I would be very pleased to hear from you. Best regards Jackie

Hi List it's getting that time of year again when many are going south for the winter so I thought I would remind you of how to unsubscribe. To unsubscribe from any Rootsweb mailing list type in the mailing list name then -L-request, let me use the Cook list as an example; [email protected] Just replace Cook for the list name you want to unsubscribe from. Now if it's a digest you what to unsubscribe from then replace the L with a D. In the subject line type unsubscribe and also type unsubscribe only in the message box. For those of you who don't want to miss the mailings or will be pulling your mail when you get to where your going there's always the mail digest. This will save all the mail on the list till it reaches a certain amount and then send in one e-mail, this will save on the amount of mail you receive. One note Rootsweb doesn't send it as an attachment however most mail programs will when it's received make it an attachment. So this is an attachment that is always virus free since it's your own mail program that turns it into an attachment. Thanks for letting take up some of your time. I hope everyone enjoys their winter this year. Hope it's fun and safe. COOK - DOWLING WEDDING DATE SET FOR THANKSGIVING DAY -------- Couple Descended From Early California Families Miss Annabelle COOK today revealed the date of her wedding, when she will become the bride of Stanley DOWLING of Santa Cruz, at a large formal tea at which she and her mother, Mrs. Wristen [Montfort] COOK, were hostesses at the family home on Winchester Drive, Burlingame. News of the wedding date was conveyed to the guests in little parchment scrolls handed to them by Marifran [Mary Frances] COOK, sister of the bride-elect. Attendants Named The marriage ceremony will take place Thanksgiving day in the chapel of the Burlingame Methodist Church with the Rev. John WILKINS reading the service. The bride will be attended by Miss Mabel KERINS and the bestman will be Eldridge CURTIS of Santa Cruz. The ceremony will be followed by a breakfast at the Hotel Benjamin Franklin for the members of the bridal party and the two families, after which the young couple will leave on a honeymoon at Del Monte. The wedding will unite two early California pioneer families. Miss COOK, on her maternal side is a descendant of George STONEMAN, early California governor. Her paternal great grandfather, William Henry WRISTEN, came to California in 1863 and settled near Davis. She is a graduate of Burlingame High School and will complete her senior year at San Jose State College following her marriage. Pioneer Family Mr. DOWLING is the son of Mrs. Frances Ashurst Dowling and Dr. Stanley Dowling of Santa Cruz. He is a grandson of John ASHURST, who came to California in 1850 and settled on El Rancho Vallecitis. His paternal grandfather, William A. DOWLING, was one of the last of the sailing captains to sail around the horn. He attended Moran High School in Santa Cruz and the San Mateo Junior College. He is now employed by a well-known lithographing firm in San Francisco and it is in that city the bridal pair will make their home. [Newspaper clipping, no date or name of paper - probably married early 1940s.] Carol De Priest <mailto:[email protected]> <http://www.azstarnet.com/~depriest/>
