Donna, I cannot eliminate Duplin County, NC but I can put a question mark beside it. Apparently, the author of one of the early books on the Shofner family wrote that the Catherine Cook who married Martin Shofner in 1780 was from Duplin County. There seems to be no record of this marriage in any location. However, in 1782 Frederick Shoffner, Martin's brother, married a Christina Cook in Orange County, NC. It is probable that Catherine Cook and Christina Cook were sisters. In addition, in 1796 in Orange County Martin Shofner served as the bondsman for the marriage of John Cook and Hannah Helton. It is also probable that John Cook was related in some respect to Catherine and Christina. The Shofners and their cousins, the Foglemans, knew Cooks at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Orange County (it is now in Alamance County) and lived very close to Cooks. So when all is said and done, the John Cook who ended up in Wayne County, TN probably (in my humble opinion) came from Orange County (the part that is now Alamance County) or the nearby areas of Chatham or Guilford Counties, NC. Some of the families that lived in those areas of NC also ended up in Wayne County, TN. But the problem remains that the specific John Cook is proving to be very difficult to identify. Am searching for info on Daniel Cook. He was born in Columbiana Co Ohio on 1/2/1828. He married Clarinda Elmina Pratt in Henry Co Ohio in 1860. They had 3 children: Sarah Elizabeth b. 1861, a son, Albert Orlando who died in 1864 and Phoebe Lucetta b. 1866. I believe they lived in Shannon Co Missouri from 1877 - 1885 when Clarinda Elmina died. No, Lisa, sorry don't have anyone by that name but the truth is I don't know any of my Cook family but my grandfather (William Cook), his sister (Dora Belle Cook) and his mother Catherine Elizabeth Rogers Cook. I have been looking for about 5 years. We didn't know until after his death he was a Cook. He did leave a wife and two children some where out there. So some where out there, there may be someone looking for him and they have no ideal what happen to him. Will he moved to WV and changed his name and become a new person my grandfather. >From Will Book 3:134-135: I, Elizabeth Cook, of Barren Co., do hereby make my last will & testament in manner & form following, that is to say, I give to my daughter Elizabeth Bradley one yellow mare, one sugar dish, and set of Gibson teaspoons, one double (illegible words), my margin Bible and two medical books (illegible) Carter (illegible) also one negro girl named Fanney. Said negro I had intended to will to my youngest son Elijah to make him equal with the rest of my children but having a knowledge that my son-in-law Joel Bradley had bargained and paid him for the chance of said negro, I give he to my said daughter, Elizabeth Brandley. Second I give my granddaughter Martha Ann Bradley one large trunk. Third I give my granddaughter Perlina Bradley one small trunk. Fourth I give my son Jonathan F. Cook one cupboard and large kettle which he has had in possession for some time. Fifth My negro boy John that William F. Cook has in his possession hired at thid time I want sold together with all my personal estate that has not here in been particularly disposed of and the money arising therefrom all my just debts and funeral expenses paid and all moneys that remain after my debts & expenses to wit amongst six of my children, W. F. Cook, George B. Cook, Jesse Cook, Elijah Cook and Elizabeth Bradley until they receive an equal part. Lotty Howell who had seventy dollars more [than] they if there should not be a sufficient sum to make them equal my will is that my daughter Lotty Howel pay them back until my six named children and her is equal but if there should be more than seventy each I wish my daughter Lotty to have her equal propritions of the over plush with the six before alluded to children. Seventh I give to my son James F. Cook fifty dollars that he owed me for the hire of a negro. Eighth I consider that Margaret Harlow and Jonathan F. Cook has had their equal proportions out of my estate at all events Margaret and James F. I have malined Jonathan's situation and do not feel it to be my duty to give him more than I have already given him. Ninth My old negro woman Rebecca I wish to be set at liberty at my death. Cook executors of this my last will & testament hereby revoking all other or former wills or testiments by me heretofore made. Reginia C. 2/25/1924 in Jefferson Co Kenneth J. 5/6/1922 in Jeffferson Co. The only Doskie on the Death records died 11/1/1964 in Jefferson Co. She signed as an informant on James William Cook's death certificate. in 1940, he was born in 1850 and married Cassie Ellen (Bruner) Does anyone know who this is, I know she is kin, but don't know the relationship.
