I am new to the Cook mail list. My wife's ancestor Nancy Cook was b. abt 1819, Unknown. She married Pleasant Williams and they were living in Lee Co Va when Nancy died in childbirth in 1855. Pleasant was reportedly from Stokes Co NC. I have seen Nancy's parents listed, one place on the internet, as Henry Cook and Sarah ? but am not certain if this is correct. Inquiring if anyone possibly would be able, from the sparse amount of information that I have provided, identify Nancy Cook and her parents. Appreciate any information or leads. Carter Versailles, KY

hi, I'd like to say a million thank you's to all fellow listers on the list. I've finally found an entry for my gr.grandmother. I had been searching for 'Williamina', but her name was really 'Wilhelmina'. Apologies to all for the mis-spelling, I was going with what the family told me. Anyway, many thanks for all the help. Best regards, Alex Brown.

Hi, I have found some 'Death' details for William Cook, my gr.gr.gr.grandfather. Died 11 Aug 1841, at Greenock, Scotland, as the result of a fall while working on the 'Main Top Gallant', of the ship 'Dalhousie'. No age given. Could anyone tell me how I can find out about this ship. I don't know if he was a member of the ship's crew. He was a Rigger to trade, and he was at one time a Mariner. I'd like to find his birth details. Best regards, Alex Brown.

Hello, I am still looking for someone who might know of the ancestry of Abiel COOK, b. 26 May 1763 in New Fairfield CT. He married 1st Margaret KRIGER 18 Oct 1790 in Williamstown MA, and 2nd Julia Anna BARRAS 1825 in Hartwick, Otsego County NY. Abiel died 28 July 1849 in Edmeston, Otsego County NY. I am descended from Abiel's and Margaret's daughter, Lois COOK. I have a copy of his Revolutionary War Pension file, I have been to Sherman and New Fairfield CT, and I have been in touch with other descendants, but so far, no one (to my knowledge) has been successful in finding Abiel's parentage. Can anyone help? Thanks very much, Carol Martin [email protected]
Hello, Re: 1700's VA>NC>GA .......3 LOTT families married into COPELAND, GRAVES, LIGHTFOOT/JOYNER, .......LIGHTFOOT/COOK/CLARK(E,) and HERRINGTON and .......DICKENS/DICKINS, aka DICKSON/DICKERSON families that connect with the .......HERRINGTON/HARRINGTON, GRANTHAM, STUCKEY, MYRICK, .......PIERCE and HATTEN/HATTON, BARLOW, etc. families I am curious about the following individuals especially regarding the wife of William W. GRAVES whom I find only as Nancy ? but noticed that she had a son name Lott GRAVES and wondering if she is a LOTT? they were the parents of Catherine GRAVES, born: abt. 1800 in Georgia, who married a man named DICKENS/DICKINS, possibly named David? DICKENS/DICKINS, parents of my paternal 2nd great grandmother: Jane/Rebecca Jane DICKENS/DICKINS, born: 1828 in MS, probably Covington Co., MS, who married my 2nd great grandfather, Isham Daniel HERRINGTON, aka Isom Daniel HARRINGTON, born: December 1828 in Covington Co., MS, parents of Harriet Katherine "Hattie" HERRINGTON, aka HARRINGTON, born: 1868 in MS, who married Calvin Pierce "Callie" MYRICK. Children of Nancy ? and William W. GRAVES: (1.) Catherine GRAVES .............born: 1800 in Georgia, (per 1850 Covington Co., MS census) (2.) John GRAVES .............born: March 13, 1800 .............md: Marian ?, (last name may start with an F) .........................md: February 23, 1819 (5.) Middleton GRAVES .............born: 1802 .............md: Matilda HERRINGTON This GRAVES descent, new to me, is through my paternal lineage and I have another paternal LOTT line that I am trying to find information on which is with Aaron LOTT's daughter, Nancy LOTT, who married Nicholas COPELAND, ancestors Ripley COPELAND, (RS,) born: abt. 1761 in Chatham Co., NC, and I also have LOTT in my maternal lineage as well as Mary COPELAND, born: abt./aft. 1775?, who married James GRAVES, born: 1730 in Culpeper Co., VA, died: bet. 23 May - Nov 10, 1796 in Lincoln Co. (previously Wilkes Co.), GA, parents of the aforementioned William W. GRAVES. Mary COPELAND and James GRAVES were the parents of William W. GRAVES, born: abt. 1770 in Georgia and I have another LOTT line in my maternal lineage with my maternal 3rd great grandmother, Frances Lucretia "Patsy" LOTT, born: abt. 1802 in Alabama, daughter of my 4th great grandparents, Absalom LOTT, born: abt. 1758, (son/grandson of Elizabeth JOYNER and John LOTT,) who married Martha Jane Dorsey? LIGHTFOOT. Shown with a little more info below, I am most eager to find out if William W. GRAVES wife, Nancy ?, mother of Lott GRAVES, was herself a LOTT and to find out who the wife and father of the Aaron LOTT, (father of the Nancy LOTT that married Nicholas COPELAND,) mentioned was and, in addition, I am very curious about the Sarah COOK who in abt. 1815 married on August 15, 1815 in Georgia possibly and whom her parents are. Does anyone know whether this Sarah COOK is descended from Henry/Heinrich COOK/KOCH who married in abt. 1781 to Margaret Susannah LIGHTFOOT, born: abt. 1765 in Antigua probably, (father: Philip LIGHTFOOT,) born: abt. 1765, possibly in Antigua/may be Virginia or ?, who married in abt. 1799/81 to Absalom LOTT, born: abt. 1758, (son/grandson of Elizabeth JOYNER and John LOTT.) The aforementioned Mrs. Margaret Susannah LIGHTFOOT COOK/KOCH had one daughter named Elizabeth COOK. I don't know if she had a daughter named Sarah COOK or not but the timeframe for the Sarah COOK below who married in August 15, 1815 would suggest possibilities that she could be a daughter of Margaret Susannah LIGHTFOOT COOK/KOCH but nothing to 'nail it' yet and after the death of Henry COOK, Mrs. Margaret Susannah LIGHTOOT COOK/KOCH CLARK(E) Margaret married 2nd husband: Henry CLARK(E.) My Martha Jane Dorsey? LIGHTFOOT and Absalom LOTT also had a daughter named Elizabeth LOTT in addition to Frances Lucretia LOTT, And Margaret Susannah LIGHTFOOT and 2nd husband, Henry CLARK(E,) had a daughter named Elizabeth CLARK(E.) And Margaret Susannah LIGHTFOOT COOK/KOCH CLARK(E) and husband, Henry CLARK(E,) had a daughter named Martha/Martha Jane? CLARK(E) who married Curtis Grubb(s) BEASON/BEESON who lived in Alabama in the 1840's. And the aforementioned Sarah COOK married on August 15, 1815 to Humphrey GRAVES, brother of Catherine GRAVES, born: 1800/abt. 1800 in Georgia, (daughter of William W. GRAVES, (son of James GRAVES and Mary COPELAND. In addition, Middleton GRAVES, (shown below,) born: abt. 1802 married Matilda HERRINGTON whom I believe is descended from my HERRINGTON lineage but can't find her branch. Also shown below is: << In info abt. James GRAVES: Private from Georgia in the Revolutionary War fought under Gen. Elijah CLARKE at the battle of Kettle Creek in GA.>> See the following in a little more detail below. I have recently begun a family tree on rootsweb and have determined family beyond what is written from the 'old trunk'..one ancestor is N. A Cook. recently discovered to be last of Montogmery co Iowa, Red Oak city. That is where we have the information on him from the county book of 1881. It is posted on Rootsweb and should be totally uploaded by Monday afternoon, under N. A. Cook. Now, he came from Cattaraugus,NY. His father died circa 1830 and N A was sent to live with an uncle ( doesnt say what side of the family) in Ontario, NY. He finished Acadamy at West Bloomfield , ontario, NY. He went west from there at age 18. He has a son listed in the county book as Norman Green Cook ( his wife being Mary E. Green). so its a good bet that N A will be Norman A. Cook, but we dont know for sure. I am searching for N A...he has a Civil War Record as well , and detailed I have taken some steps to get that information as well..just thought i would post this and see what comes up..I am thinking the census of 1840 ontarioNY might show a family member with this name or even as a Cook with a nephew living with the family etc... Thank you ..Alan S. Cook Gr Gr grandson, Washington State
Is anyone working on the Cook family from Houston County TX? Joe W. Pyle Nacogdoches, TX
Hi, Re-submitting this request, apologies for not making the first submission clearer. Searching for Birth and Death details of William Cook, Merchant Seaman, Rigger. Married Agnes Milliken at Greenock, Scotland, circa Feb 1821. Details on 1841 Scotland Census show him living with his wife Agnes and their children, Ann, William and Maria at Greenock. He is not on the 1851 Scotland Census for Greenock. It appears like William has died, and, that Agnes has re-married, to a man named Richards, and, been widowed again. It's all very confusing to me, could do with some serious help, possibly Psychiatric. Any help/details would be much appreciated. Best regards, Alex Brown.
