    1. [COOK-L] postimng interest
    2. R.Cook
    3. Hi all, I have just joined the list. I am interested in the Cook's from Berkshire England. My G.G.grandfather Thomas Cook born C 1835, his parents are William and Elizabeth. Thomas emigated to South Australia in the mid 1800's. I have no hard evidence which will enable me to locate them, including no dates of birth. I have found on the 1851 census of Berkshire the following. Elizabeth 52 Charles 13 Elizabeth 10 James 6 Thomas 16 William 52 These dates seem to match what little I know of my family. I have also located a Thomas Cook christend 10/1/1836 Compton Berkshire, and Thomas Cook christened 18/1/1835 Compton near Newbury Berkshire. I would love to hear from anyone who may be connected with these cook's. I can be contacted if desired on [email protected] Richard

    3. Most of you I know have at least some interest in History, so you might find this page interesting. If I included you by mistake, please accept my apologies. This is a link to a web site called "History Matters." It is a gateway (has many links to other sites) designed for teachers of History. Lots of things to interest amateur historians and family historians as well. Have fun! http://historymatters.gmu.edu/ Marty

    1. [COOK-L] COOK, WILSON, WELLS, CT
    2. Does anyone have information on the Wilson family of Hartford County, CT? Specifically, I am looking for the parents and genealogy of a Weltha (Wealthy) WILSON b. abt. 1783; d. 17 Sep 1869 age 86. She m. Oct 1804 Orrin COOK. Orrin d. 24 Apr 1845 at age 60. They had their family in Bloomfield and both are burried in Old Bloomfield Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT. Their son Orrin B. d. 18 May 1852 age 43. He may have been the Orrin COOK (Barbour Records) who married Harriet DEMING d/o of Abel & Mary Orrin & Harriet were both of Wethersfield, CT at the time of marriage. Orrin B. COOK is burried near his parents in Bloomfield, CT. Their son Watson COOK b. 1825 in Bloomfield, CT; d. 1898 and m. 1849 in Simsbury, Hartford, CT Emma WELLS. Emma d. 14 Nov 1869 age 38. They are burried in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT. I would like to know this WELLS ancestry also. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Roger

    3. Royal Artillery Regiment Memorial To the Right Honorable Lord SIDNEY, one of His Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State &c &c &c The Memorial of the Officers, Artificers, & Labourers of the Civil Branch of the Ordnance Humbly Sheweth That they conceive a reduction of the Civil Branch of the Ordnance will take place when the Peace Establishment is form'd. That several of the Artificers having Applied to Brigadier General MARTIN Commanding the Royal Artillery to be discharged the service, he gave them Discharges, and are already settled in Nova Scotia. That the memorrialists actuated by other Principles, and holding it as a maxim, that their private intrest, is not to interfere with their public duty, have declin'd making any application for a Settlement as they are conscious that their labours and their Services must be wanted, while the Ordnance and Stores continue to be attach'd to the Service of the Army. That they present this address with no view to an immediate provision, That they mean only to inform His Excellency that a Sett of men who has zealously done their duty thro' the whole course of this War, and many of them thro' the former War, are determined to continue to do it while their services are required, and only wish for an Asylum for themselves and their families, when their personal exertions are no longer necessary. That trusting to His Excellency's unremitting Attention to relieve the distresses and grant protection to those who have faithfully done their duty They humbly pray. That His Excellency would be pleas'd to order that an allotment of Lands may be granted and set apart for them, in Nova Scotia, where they may shelter themselves and their families, when the Service shall no longer have occasion for them and their Labours.
