    3. Hi, My grandmother was a Cook from Fall River, MA. Her Cook family is from the Portsmouth, Little Compton, RI and Fall River, MA area. Do you have any Cook's from that area? She connects to the Brayton's, Bordens, Remington, and others in that area. 1. [COOK] Another William Cook b. 1922 in Danville, IL
    2. Chris Chaney
    3. I have inquired before, but since the list is so active, I thought I would try again!! My grandfather's name was William Cook born 26 Oct 1922 around Danville, IL. He died in August 1972 in Clinton, IN. According to his marriage license, his father was also a William, but I can't read the middle initial. The only thing that I know about his father was that he died when my grandfather was very young. I am told that he was burned in a gas truck accident. My mother tells me that when my grandfather's father died, his wife married a gentleman by the name of HOLD. Both my grandfather and his mother are buried in Clinton, IN. My grandfather had a sister named Betty who married a Blackburn and lived in Terre Haute, IN. If anyone has any info, photos, or contact that might be able to help me out, that would be great!!! 2. We are looking for the parents of Daniel Cook who came with his wife, Martha Norwood Cook, from sC to Wilcox County, AL. They built beautiful Cook Hill (near Camden, in Possum Bend). Daniel and Martha arrived around 1807. Could this James Cook be connected? Is there a book on James or perhaps a diary? Robbie Cook Purser RobbiePurser@aol.com

William at an early age moved to West Branch, Iowa & became member of Methodist church." Since his parents, Isaac Cook and Elizabeth Kirk were Quakers I wanted to post in case someone is familiar with the Quakers of Belmont County, OH. Peter Cook and Elinor Norman are the emigrants and all others descend from them and their (probable) 13 offspring. This is my Cook family, too, although I don't have this Isaac as he is not my direct line. If you have not done so already (I think you have, if memory serves, but just checking), be sure to post on the Quaker-Roots mailing list. Apparently Hinshaw (Encyclopeida of American Quaker Genealogy) says he was dismissed ("disowned") for disunity (acting contrary to discipline) in 1833 from the Elkton MM. I can't find any note that he was reinstated. 2. Hi Mary-Gene, I was wondering since your William Cook was born about 1869 instead of being John's son perhaps he was abrother? A William Cook is listed on the Mecklenburg tax lists in the 1790's , so that William would have to be a grown man over 21. Now, our John Cook, Sr. was born about 1760 so it is very possible he may have had a brother born in 1769. God bless, Beth ---------------- Hi Mary-Gene, I have been working on this family for years and I had William's name and wife, etc. before we ever wrote to each other. William was listed in records related to this family. For instance, he was along with John and other Cooks listed in the estate accounts and sales for Herbert Cook his brother. There are other records of Mecklenburg County which list William as being connected to this Cook family. I do genealogy research for myself and for some years now for others too and I have been going through tons of records for various families at the Library of Virginia for many years since they were in the old building so I am pretty well acquainted with doing genealogy searching. I'll tell you our story. *John COOK* b around *1736* -+ shows up in Parsippany Morris County NJ along about 1770 or so. There is a *"Phoebe wife of John Cook* "buried in the Presbyterian church yard there, *dying* at age 25y on *16 May1775*. By the time she dies they have 4 children that we know of. David b. 1768 - 1775 Ann b. 1768- 1775 Mary ( Polly) b. 30 Mar 1775 Jemima Cook b. 1768- 1775. 2nd wife documented in Morristown Presby Church Mabel Johnson b. 1758 Hanover dau. of Alexander and Lois (Gregory)Johnson they had 6 children Phebe b. 27 Nov 1778 William b. ? Samuel Gregory b. 1781 Sarah b. 1788 John C. b. 1790 Timothy H. b. 1793 I was thinking perhaps they had come from a different religous affiliation than Presby. 3. Thanks, this is most interesting! We may find out! I think, because Robert Cook was supposed to have been old enough to serve in the Revolutionary War, but I don't have any record of children for him until 1800, that he probably had a family prior to the one my husband descends from. Plus, I have no idea who Robert's parents, siblings, etc. are, so there is a very good chance that they are connected! That they came to Clinton county also is interesting and is definitely something to look into. I just talked my husband into doing the DNA test, so hopefully, we'll be able to figure out which Cook line we're connected to! It would be really neat to be able to put all these bits and pieces together and get all these Cooks sorted out! "-) Take care! 3. My George Cook was born in 1760 in Lancaster Co, PA. He died in Larimer Twp, Somerset Co, PA in 1850. Here is the story of this George Cook: "Among Our Pioneers: A Genealogical Record of the Cook Family", Written by J. Harry Fritz, of Somerset, Pennsylvania under date of January 3rd, 1896. It came from a newspaper - probably in Somerset Co, PA. George Cook was born in the northwestern part of what was then Lancaster county, near Harrisburg, Jan. 10, 1760. He moved to Allegany County, Maryland a mile southeast of the present town of Wellersburg, this state. He made application for a tract of land of 115 acres, situated at the foot of the eastern slope of Big Savage mountain, on the "Big Road, in what is now Larimer township and the warrant was granted August 13, 1792. It was surveyed on March 11, 1793 and a return made to the State land office. Upon this tract he built a grist mill and a sawmill, moved upon it, and lived there till Death called him to his eternal home. He was married twice. His first wife was a sister of Christian Berkey or Berkley, who had a grist-mill in the Glades, at the foot of Allegany mountain near the present town of Meyersdale. His second wife was Rachel Troutman, a daughter I think of Pioneer Wm Troutman of Southampton township. His first wife died while they were living in Maryland. His second wife died Feb 11, 1847, aged 54 years, 6 months and 11 days. He died March 7, 1850. His remains and those of his second wife, lie in the cemetery at the White Oak church in Larimer township. Pioneer George Cook's children, by his first wife were Jacob, George, John, Sarah, Catherine, Elizabeth and Nancy; among those by his second wife were Eliza, Lydia, Lucinda, Lavinia, Mariah, Susan, Rachel and Solomon. Jacob was born Jan. 3, 1785; married Catharine Hardin; and died August 26, 1864. His wife died Sept. 6, 1861, aged 73 years, 4 mo., and 17 days. They rest in the family graveyard on the Jesse Cook farm. George was born Aug. 15, 1793; married Catharine Uhl; died June 2, 1884. His wife was born Apr. 15, 1793, and died in May 1862. John died in infancy. Sarah married David Close. Catharine married Samuel Witt. Elizabeth married John Hardin. Nancy married a Mr. Barnd. Eliza married Frank Morehouse. Lydia married J. Bittner. Among the children of David Close were James, Joseph, Malissa, Anna and Louisa. Samuel Witt's children were Mariah, Rebecca, Catharine, Josiah, Elias, Michael, Nancy, Dinah and Caroline. Mariah married a Mr. Alsbaugh; Rebecca married J. Long; Joseph married a Miss Crosby; Dinah married a Mr. Alsbaugh; Caroline married a Mr. Harman. Jacob Cooks' children were Johm, Jacob, George, Sally, Polly, William, Jesse, Catharine, Henry and Dennis. Walker; Polly married David Hay; William married three times, Susan Troutman, Anna Studebaker and Cordelia Smith; Jessie married Elizabeth Hoyman; Catharine married Jacob Hardin; Henry married Martha Devore; Dennis married Betsey Lepley.
