    3. I've recently moved into a retirement facility, my records are in storage and my tree is inactive on Ancestry, but from memory: John and Sarah Fulton Cook b. abt. 1715 (Ireland/Scotland ?), and what I know of my family is first found having migrated to PA where John died and Sarah and children received land grants in Union Co. SC in the 1770s. Most all of what is known came from "The 'Journal of Alexander Chesney" who was the son of Sarah's sister. Will be happy to provide more info if this rings a bell and will tell you how to get to my Ancestry tree. 3. Alright I've been researching the different options available. Here's what I've narrowed down too and the benefits each has; 1. Facebook - Can add Photo's and files. Can have the group public, private or secret. Free 2. Google groups- Doesn't appear to have a file area. Users can receive emails of posts like we had a Rootsweb. Can view topics and can make the group public to be searchable from the web. here's a group that can be viewed- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/louisiana-genealogy-blogs 3. Groups.io- Does have a file and photo area however they count towards storage limits for the group which is only 1GB of storage which is free anything over that would have to be paid for. Doesn't appear to be searchable from the web only through their directory. It reminds me a lot of Yahoo Groups. Here's an example- https://njgf.groups.io/g/main I personally would chose either Facebook or Google groups. What do you think? Thanks, Lisa -----Original Message----- From: Lisa Martin [mailto:lrclevers@centurylink.net] Sent: Tuesday, January 7, 2020 5:42 PM To: 'COOK Family' Subject: [COOK] FW: [ROOT-LO-ANNOUN] RootsWeb Mailing Lists Sadly I received this information today. This wasn't the agreement Ancestry told us when they bought Rootsweb. I know many would rather not use Ancestry since you have to pay to use. There are free sites that can be used like Family Search @ https://www.familysearch.org/ Only no message boards. There's also Wikitree @ https://www.wikitree.com which is free and they do have message forums. I do like Wikitree they require sources for each person listed which is a big help in research. Yes they is some incorrect info listed, but the good thing is if you see info not correct you can go in and edit and fix the misinformation and add source info to back up the change. If any of you are interested I can start a COOK group on Facebook if enough are interested in me doing so. I will miss this group some of you have been on this page with me since the late 90's Thanks, Lisa Martin List Owner -----Original Message----- From: RootsWeb Administration [mailto:rwmailinglists@ancestry.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 7, 2020 12:35 PM To: rootsweb-listowners-announcements@rootsweb.com Subject: [ROOT-LO-ANNOUN] RootsWeb Mailing Lists Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. 3. FYI: I'm on a bunch of tech groups that are moving/have moved from Yahoo Groups to "Groups.IO" because of changes to the Yahoo groups that have come down. Groups.IO appears to be an excellent place to run mailing lists. Just another site for consideration, I have no connection to them other than being on a bunch of groups there (Also on a bunch of groups at Google).
