Hi!, I am reasearching the family of Samuel Mack Rayburn born in Alabama in June, 1857. He married Sarah L. in Lauderdale Co. AL in 1880. They had three children and moved to Wayne Co. TN in 1883. I am esepecially interested in the siblings and parents of Samuel Mack Rayburn. I am currently investigating a possible tie to the family of Howell Jackson Rayburn. Hi guys, Uhhh...I goofed! When I sent out a message asking for a roll call on my surname lists, I sent it to all of the lists at once. Now, when anyone hits reply to all, the message goes to all of the lists. Please double check when you hit the reply button what goes into the "Send To" field. I'll try not to make another mistake. As you can see from the postings below some folks are really upset for receiving the extra mail. And, they should be! Let's please remember that Roll Calls are not welcome on many lists. Our surname lists have a smaller subscriber base and, of course, we are all interested in the same surname so it makes sense for a roll call to happen occassionally. Again, I am very sorry for the problem. That's what I get for staying up late and sending out emails when I'm half awake! :) Thank you, Tracey Listowner of GenTips, GenChat, GenHumor, GenSwap, Carrington, Langley, Converse, Isbell, Cavitt, Mayfield, Rye, McClain, Raburn, Broome, Cobb, Nesbitt, and Dawson Genealogy Lists -----Original Message----- From: Sharon <todt@castles.com> To: Tracey Converse <roots@myfamily.org> Cc: todt@sparc1.castles.com <todt@sparc1.castles.com>; OhDemBones <OhDemBones@aol.com> Date: Thursday, December 04, 1997 9:34 PM Subject: [Fwd: Lists???] >Hi Tracey! > > >That last 'RollCall' message you posted to ALL your lists has created >major problems. If so I will, maybe when their mail boxes are cramed full with it they will get the message. I now just delete roll call and that is sad. They fall into the junk mail file. Karen

Hello Converses, My paternal grandmother was Eleanor Robinson Converse Brooks, daughter of Capt. Lorenzo Converse, son of Dr. Jacob Converse, son of Lt. Jacob Converse, son of Ensign Edward Converse, son of Samuel Converse Jr., son of Sgt. Samuel Converse, son of Deacon Edward Converse. I am particularly interested in learning more about Miss Eleanor Robinson, the second wife of Dr. Jacob Converse. She was said to be a descendant of the Rev. John Robinson, the Leyden pastor of the Pilgrims, and of Eleanor Robinson, "a legatee" of Capt. Miles Standish. Anyone know anything about her lineage? I am interested in all the Converse information I can accumulate. Thank you! Rev. Frank A. Brooks Carrollton, TX (fabrooks28@aol.com)

Okay, it's that time again....we've added a lot of new subscribers to the lists so I thought we might find some long lost cousins by running another roll call! If you are new and wondering what I'm talking about, a roll call is simply a listing of everyone's line in hopes of finding another researcher also working on your line! Let's please remember to make it a little easier by including a subject line that's easy to understand. I'm not picky but let's change the subject line from Roll Call to name, area, and time period. The source for her surname as DAY excapes me now, may be based on the middle name of John Day CONVIS. Lucy is noted as James's widow in the DAR books. The RI-VR books in the Seattle library are incomplete, so I have been unable to prove or disprove the DAY connection, much less find James's and Lucy's parents. If anyone has access to RI vitals, and can find them - or another surname for Lucy-, I would appreciate any help I can get. This is my mother's primary line, and I am trying to get back to the emmigrent before Christmas. Thanks, Stephen M. Olds smolds@foxinternet.net

Hi CONVERSE List, Am new to this list. Hope someone can help me. For over 50 years my family has been searching for the parents and or siblings (names unknown) of my Great Grandfather Robert DAWSON b. 11 Mar 1827 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY. Can't figure out who they were or why he left Kentucky without them but: The next 27 years are a blank : The next thing I know about him is when he married (1) Mary Elizabeth HALL on 25 Oct 1854 in Pike Co., Illinois, License #1090. She was said to be of Indian descent, possibly Choctaw but I cannot prove it as I do not know her parents names. Need help on her. My Grandfather John A. DAWSON was born exactly two years later on 25 Oct 1856 in Barry, Pike Co.,ILL. Grandpa said when he was about eight years old his Mother left with another man. Sure enough I found a marriage record where E.C. HALL married (2) John Alexander PASTORS on 11 Jul 1863 in Scott Co., ILL. There is no license # but I do have a copy. No record of divorce from Robert DAWSON. I know the PASTORS had five children and were living in Wichita, KS in 1907 because my Grand- father John DAWSON's house burned down in Barry, Pike Co. ILL and he being a Teamster, went out & bought bows & canvas, made a covered wagon; loaded up Grandma Parthenia PARRICK,and family and went to see his Mother Mary Elizabeth DAWSON PASTORS. In the wagon he took four sons, including my Father Dora DAWSON, & 2 grandchildren, My Aunt Nina DAWSON took the train as her brother my Uncle Elmer DAWSON had lost his wife and his baby son Bob DAWSON was too tiny for such a hard wagon trip. So Nina (about 13) took him on the train and met up with her folks in Wichita, KS. John A. PASTORS helped them find a house to rent & one of the PASTOR sons found Grandpa John DAWSON a job in construction. They stayed about six months before returning to Illinois. Years later my own Mother asked Grandma Parthenia PARRICK DAWSON why they had taken this hard trip and she said, "Oh John was always foolish about his Mother." My Great Grandfather Robert DAWSON enlisted in the 47th Illinois Reorganized Infantry, Company F as a Private on 23 Feb 1865 at Mt. Sterling, Fulton Co. ILL. His marital status was left blank. He did state that he and both parents were born in KY but no names. Robert DAWSON caught the measles, suffered from Lung Disease and years after the Civil War rec'd a pension as a result. I have a copy of his Civil War Records showing that he was treated in Army Hospitals in 3 different states and on the hospital ship, the Steamer "Baltic." His unit was mustered out 31 Jan 1866 in Selma, Demopolis, Alabama, ordered back to Springfield, ILL where he rec'd back pay and Discharge. Robert DAWSON married (2) Belzada PARRICK on 9 Apr 1871 in Adams Co., ILL. No other info on this marriage. I do have a copy but there is no license number. Robert DAWSON married (3) Mary Elizabeth McDONALD on 28 Mar 1877 in Brown Co.,ILL. License #100. She was b. 2 Dec 1845 and d. 30 Aug 1924. She rec'd a Widows pension after Roberts death. There were three children: Nathan DAWSON b. 22 Feb 1878 d. 4 Jan 1936 MO. Sevesta May DAWSON b. 23 Sep 1881 - d. 12 Mar 1882 IL Maud Martha DAWSON b. 10 Oct 1883 - d. 17 Apr 1931 IL. Robert DAWSON died 6 Mar. 1894 in Barry, Pike Co., ILL and is buried there. The John McTucker post of the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) was in charge of the service at his grave and there is a Military Marker there. Right after I sent out the above message,to 85 people from the DAWSON Homepage I got a response from Douglas DAWSON Grandson of Nathan DAWSON who was a half brother to my own Grandfather John DAWSON. He had notes from a telephone conversation his sister Beverly DAWSON had taken with their Father David Amos DAWSON sometime prior to his death in 1986. None of the following has been verified: "In the 1800's there was a doctor in Scotland named Sir Cedric DAWSON, title given by Edinburg College. Maiden name for the doctor's wife may have been ESKEW. They had a son(unknown first name)who had 13 sons. All male members left Scotland, embarked from Ireland for the U.S.(possibly NC.) They got jobs and sent for the Mother and the 14th child, a girl, at last. One son may have been Edmund DAWSON." This is the first lead we have had in over 50 years of research. Now I need to figure out how to get from me to them. Will you please check your research and see if you can come up with any matches for me? Any ideas of where to look would be more than just greatly appreciated. I am most anxious to establish contact with anyone researching DAWSON, HALL, ELDER, PASTORS, PARRACK/PARRICK, MEDLOC, LEWELLEN, MCLAUGHLIN, RAINWATER, SPARROW in Kentucky. Please let me hear from you. Thank you in advance Marjorie DAWSON THOMAS in Battle Ground, WA 98604 E-mail is basset@juno.com I am not on the Internet but I do have E-mail.
I am trying to locate proof that Whipple was indeed the maiden name of Nellie (Nella in 1840 Census, Palmer, MA) who m. Stephen Converse b 7 Apr 1775 Stafford Springs, Tolland Co., CT and d 14 March 1864 Belchertown, MA. Nellie b. abt. 1773 d 1 Oct. 1856. Both buried in Belchertown, MA. The Whipple name came from notes of my grandmother's, but have never been able to locate proof that this was Nellie's maiden name or perhaps even the name of a first husband. Have no idea where this information was found. Have the Converse Genealogy by Charles Allen Converse and this branch stops with Stephen's father, Stephen who m. Zurviah Sanger. Any information you might have that would shed some light on the subject would be greatly appreciated. We've been looking for Nellie since the turn of the century -- about time for a break!!!
