Her husband, Earl E. Conlin, grew up in Corktown, Detroit (the Irish area). He moved with his father to Ann Arbor, MI after a fire at the family cleaners business killed his mother and caused severe health problems for his father. He grew up at a small farm aftrer that ('w/ dirt floors'). He managed to put himself through the U. of MI during the Depression and raised 2 boys and a girl (my Mom) with Annette. They lived in Detroit and then Birmingham, MI. He worked for the ExCello Corporation and was on the Board at BCBS of MI. He became very successful. He died in 1975, I think - a year before I was born. His eldest son - James Earl - died about 3 years ago from heart failure (this was very sad - he was everyone's favorite). My other uncle - David Paul - and my Mom (with their respective spouses) both live in Birmingham still. Oddly, we know very little about the family (particularly the Co! nlins) despite having moved very little over the last 100 years (at least). I wish I knew more and am trying to see if Corktown (now a historical neighborhood) can help me out at all. I think my Grandpa's family came from Northern Ireland and I think he was first generation - so no Vermonters. That doesn't mean, of course, that their isn't a connection. My Mom was told once that all Conlins (with an 'i') are related. I believe this is b/c it is a derivation of O'Connolly and one family all took that spelling (?). Sorry - that's really all I have...

When I get home I post the obits for other people listed on the page who are researching their families and don' t have access to the newspapers. Many people have sent me information over the internet from cities across the country that have helped in my research. It's my way of possibly helping other people. Marcia

So, the little new info I have is that my grandfather's parents (Earl Edgar Conlin) were from N. Ireland (which I hadn't thought to be true) - meaning he may be of the same line as yours in (London)Derry. Nobody seems to know anything beyond this (not even his parents names). I would think they came over to the States sometime between 1870's-1900. My Grandpa was born around 1905-6. He was born and they lived in Corktown (Detroit), where they had a cleaners. The cleaners burned down around 1915 (give or take a few years). His mother died. His father (very ill then) and he moved to Ann Arbor (a farm outside the town). They were dirt poor with dirt floors after the fire, etc etc.

William Conlin, parents and siblings unknown born Nov 1840 Ireland, immigrated 1850, married Catharine Manning of Boston, MA in 1865. Had son John J. in MA 1867, Francis Joseph Sr. in Philadelphia, PA 1871-73, Margaret in MA 1877, Charles Michael in Camden, NJ 01/11/1878, son in PA 4/1875, Daniel P. in PA 1880, James "Jimmy" in Camden, NJ 10/14/1884, Child in Camden 1885-88 (believed died as infant), Mary in Camden, NJ 03/25/1889. William was a shoemaker by trade and is listed in PA & NJ directories. Several of the children were also in the business with William and carried it on and over to Lancaster county, Pa around 1900. Apparently a Bed & Breakfast in Lancaster County was built by John J. and Mary Conlin, I believe this to be the same John J. as it is in the same town that a shoe factory was built by the Conlin's. Any info would be greatly appreciated, 3 years and no closer to knowing anything about William's family ! or origins. Thanks Donnie Conlin

He was born in Carrick Moore, Tyrone County Ireland. He grew up in Philadelphia. He died on 2/7/1928 and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery outside Phialdelphia. His wife was Mary Clancy who he met at the Chicago World Fair in 1893. They lived in the Chicago area and had three boys: James, John and Tom. They moved to Philadelphia and had three girls: Mary Rose, Helen and Agnes. John came to the US as a child with his parents Owen and Rose Conlin. Owen probably died prior to 1890. Rose died 11-11-1901 and is buried in Holy Cross with most of her children. Let me know if you might have any more info.
