    3. Kevin, I don't need to take a second copy but I am curious as to why it happens. Is there, perhaps some problem I have with my computer system? I share a lot of photos with others; and I would be interested to know if they are going to experience problems copying my copies of copies. David -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Kevin Ross Sent: 23 January 2012 15:22 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [COMPUTERS] Copying photos Hi David, I hear you, but I don't quite understand why you need to do a 2nd copy to the EHD from the Laptop. You have the Photos on your PC, then your EHD, then your Laptop. Why copy them back to the EHD from the Laptop unless some changes are being done to the Photos on your Laptop ? Regards, Kevin. 3. Hi David, I can only guess that the files may somehow be compressed or encrypted when you do the last copy from the Laptop to the EHD.  Check the settings in your copy program (SyncBack SE). I also assume that you have checked to see that the photos on the Laptop are okay ? Do you have a program to compare files?  You could use this to do a comparison of the files on your Laptop to the folder on the EHD where you copied from the Laptop. I use a program called Beyond Compare, but it is not free. Perhaps Faststone Image Viewer may do the trick... http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm Regards, Kevin. 3. Kevin, I agree with David. I think that SyncBack is probably corrupting the images while compressing or encrypting them. It's not so much file corruption, as image corruption. The crc will be correct, because the syncback altered the file, rather than a corruption during copy. I saw similar results many years ago with the early compression software. Stripes on corrupt image files appear because of the way the lossy compression works. The result varies depending on the file type. I'm guessing the images are JPEG. Can you send me a corrupt image to analyse? And the good version of the same image?
