Peter, Avast is a likely culprit. Check in the Avast application rules, that Firefox is not blocked. You could try turning off the avast firewall while you test the image upload. Also, I'm curious to know why you use the webmail. Your runbox account gives you POP/IMAP and SMTP, with security.
