    3. Ok, we fixed it. When I saw the images, I suspected David may be using Vista, and I thought the corrupt files were caused by Vista itself. What didn't make sense was that the laptop causing the corruption, was actually a Win 7 system. I suggested he turn off the 'Remote Differential Compression'. (This is on by default on Win7). That appears to have fixed it. There is a Vista bug: Copying or viewing of jpeg files (either thumbnail or full size) can render jpeg files corrupt. Files on external hard drives and media cards seem to be more susceptible. I could be wrong, but I don't think Microsoft ever acknowledged or fixed the bug, and now Microsoft no longer support Vista. There were many theories, and plenty tried to find the cause, but I don't think the it was ever isolated. I'm sure someone will leap on me for saying this, but, Win7 is really only a service pack to Vista. I now suspect the bug is still alive in Win7. In my book, any kind of file corruption when copying files is definitely not acceptable. I'm glad I use Linux. Les Hardy On 25/01/12 15:39, Kevin Ross wrote: > Interesting !
