    1. [COMPUTERS] Slow response time
    2. David Railton
    3. I have an Acer 5552 Laptop with 3GB RAM (2.74 useable), Windows 7, 64 bit. Response time are getting slower and slower for everything - websites, installed programmes, files etc. For example, I have just tried to print a 1 page Word document - the first time it tried and failed, the second time it took about 6 minutes from the time I first clicked on print to getting the page from the printer. Another example is 25 seconds to open Outlook. This is not a Windows start up problem. Can anyone tell me how I should approach solving this problem. David

    3. Hi David, Have you cleaned out all temporary files using CCleaner (or similar) ? Does your C: drive have enough Free Space? Assuming your Operating System (Win XP, Win 7, etc.) is on the C: Drive, running out of space will grind Windows to a halt pretty quickly ! (Believe me, I've done it !!!) You can try scanning your system files to see if any are corrupted... http://windows.about.com/od/maintainandfix/ss/scansystemfiles.htm Limit the number of programs starting up when you boot up MS Windows... http://windows.about.com/od/customizingwindows/ss/start_programs.htm After you have addressed all of the above, you can try to Defragment your Hard Drive http://windows.about.com/od/maintainandfix/ss/defragment.htm Also... Have you made any hardware changes recently that would possibly impact your system performance? Regards, Kevin. FYI... (not really to "speed up" your computer, as much as it is to keep it running optimally !!!)
