Hi Joan, I have used OpenOffice for ever, on Linux, and on windows XP. The application is very reliable. I did once see the problem you describe. The user was closing down with documents still open. Could you give me more information... What operating system do you have? Where are you storing the files? What version of Open Office do you have? I'm guessing your files are spreadsheets?
