    3. Hi all Using Win7 with Thunderbird and Avast Switched on and went to open Thunderbird to download my mail this morning I got this message in a pop up window ===================== Add Security Exception You are about to override how Thunderbird identifies this site Legitimate banks, stores, and other public sites will not ask you to do this Server Location (googlemail server) (then a clickable box "Get certificate") Certificate Status This site attempts to identify itself with invalid information (then clickable box "View") Unknown identity Certificate is not trusted, because it hasn't been verified by a recognized authority using a secure signature (then a tick box) Permanently store this exception Confirm Security Exception (or) Cancel ===================== Cancel did nothing and the only way I could get past this was to "Confirm Security Exception" And therefore "Permanently store this exception" It then downloaded my overnight mail As I don't know why this has come up or what the repercussions are I wondered if any other user has had this -- Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)

As long as YOU didn't change the server you're connecting to, it shouldn't be any problem to add the exception.

    3. Thanks Bud The same pop up is coming back periodically, if there is a pattern I can't fathom it out, perhaps its cycling every few minutes? I certainly haven't changed any settings and the server address is the valid one, both outgoing and incoming I was more concerned there was some sort of intervention but it seems like its a handshake problem (for want of a better expression) Its good to know others have had problems in a similar way Thanks for letting me know I can only recall one similar happening some years back and that was a certificate being out of date until it was validated Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Thunderbird (and a few other clients) have had problems with GMail security > certs. > > As long as YOU didn't change the server you're connecting to, it shouldn't > be any > problem to add the exception. >
