Hi Barbara, You simply need to remove the Hard Drive from your old computer and attach it to the EZ-Connect device. (Make sure you use the correct connector for your hard Drive type... 2.5" IDE, 3.5" IDE or SATA... it should be obvious, but the IDE connectors are similar... watch that you don't force it or break any pins!) http://kingwin.com/products/cate/accessories/adapters/usi_2535.php When you plug the EZ-Connect into your new Win 8.1 computer, via USB, your Old Hard Drive will show up as a New Drive in File Explorer and you will be able to access, copy, move the data files as you wish. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows-8/search-file-explorer Regards, Kevin.
