Sorry Janet Each to their own but I would steer clear of Norton especially if you are using an older computer as it slows down your machine markedly Just my opinion and I am sure like Janet there are others out there who rave about Norton but in my experience I have had nothing but trouble with it The first thing I do when receiving a new computer is remove Norton and associated bloatware When I was using XP I used the free Comodo firewall and Avast free anti-virus With Win7 I use the Windows firewall and Avast Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Robert, > > I highly recomment Norton since I have used it for many years without any problems. You can download from the internet or I think but it at any store which I think I did the first time. They have done a great job stopping and getting rid of viruses before they get into your computer and several have blocked intruders trying to get into my computer. I have used it for more than 20 years without a problem. Never have had a virus get into my computer or anyone else. > > Janet
Nivard, Each to his own but I disagree with you entirely. I have used Norton by Symantec since 1983 when I bought my first computer and have had other computers since then and now a laptop for quite a few years. All have had Norton on them and never have had a problem with a slow computer. A tech that I have had several times and my daughter who occassionly uses computer when she is here, have both remarked about my computer being fast. My first computer lasted until last year but of course could no longer use it on the internet as it lacked the capability as time went on and then I used it only for my genealogy. Don't worry Janet we are still, thankfully, entitled to our own opinions They haven't taxed that yet, although its probably only a matter of time :-) I had nothing but trouble with Norton on more than just one machine But you are happy with, I have no problem with that Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 14/03/2014 14:16, wstjs@aol.com wrote: > > Nivard, > > Each to his own but I disagree with you entirely. I agree with Nivard... Anti-Virus: Avira or Avast Firewall: Comodo Free Great products that do the job they are intended for... no more... no less. I have been in the Tech Industry since 1979 and was a heavy user of Norton, in the beginning (i.e. Norton Utilities was an amazing product way back), but have to say that, now, it and much other commercial software is nothing more than Bloatware and is too expensive for what it does. There are superior products out there. Even the businesses that I have been associated with over the past 20 years, use McAfee as their go-to security product.
