I can't understand the barnhill link--'way to complicated for my old brain! :-) I don't have Works WP so I guess I'll have to do without the macron--and I seriously doubt, even if I could create it, that PAF's notes would accommodate it. If someone could create macron over n in Works, and send it privately in an attachment to LilaGarner@hotmail.com, I'd try to paste it in and see what happens. While I was searching for help, before I wrote to this list, I ran across a Wikipedia entry that says that a macron is used over the letter u in Old German Script, to distinguish u from n. That is not exactly the case: the diacrit over u to distinguish it from n is a Haken, a dip or a cup over the u. Since I'm not experienced in every area of Germany, the macron may be used in some regions that I haven't run across. Thanks for everyone's help.
